Is The A310 Still In Production?

Fri May 31, 2002 1:36 am

Does anybody know if the A310 is still in production? I know the a300 still is, but I am not sure about the A310, because the latest A310 delivery was in 1998 if I am correct(Uzbekistan?). Bill Harms list says the A310 is in production but there are no orders for it.

Officially still in production but the only remaining order is a 5-frame order from Iraqi Airways, pretty unlikely at the moment (or in future) that they will be build. Effectively the line has been shut down.

Flown: A319/320/321,A332/3,A343/346, A380,AT4,AT7,B732/3/4/5/7/8/9,B742/4,B762/763,B772/77W,CR2/7/9/K,ER3/4,E70/75/90/95, F50/70/100,M11,L15,SF3,S20, AR8/1, 142/143,...

On the recent ILA fair at Berlin the Airbus/EADS hall presented its full product range including the A310.
I was interested in "official" AI comments about the A310 future, but
nobody was able to give me facts.
It´s more or less prestige not to close any productione line unless Airbus making losses with it.
However airline interest is going to be absolutely NIL. SO about the A310 production.

I bet the 717 will be an earlier candidate...

According to Bill Harms site, there are no currently outstanding A310 orders although it does list some "cancelled" orders without customers associated. The A310 page does say "In Production" however. It also doesnt list the 6-off order from Iraqi Airways.

I think the A310s are built on the same line as the A300, and because there still many A300s on order, it's still possible to order the A310 and get them delivered.

Because the A310 isn't that much different from the A-300 which is still in production, Airbus keeps all opportunities open. A-310 lost its appeal as passenger airliner but they still market it as military transport or AEW aircraft. As UPS will keep the combined line open for years to come, if you ask Airbus for a pair of A-310s in 2007, they will still be happy to build them for you.
Same reason it's no big deal for Boeing certain versions of the 737 or 767 don't sell well.

Would be nice to see some new A310 in the skies, as it is really a nice type of aircraft.
