Boeing Books Two 737-700s for Alaska Airlines

"SEATTLE, May 30 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The Boeing Company (NYSE: BA - News) today confirmed an order from Alaska Airlines for two additional airplanes, bringing the number of 737-700s that the airline has on firm order with Boeing to 19."

Yeah, there was another thread this morning in which forum members were discussing Alaska's lack of planes for expansion. Obviously, these two new 737-700s might make future expansion into Florida or at Denver possible. Good news.

A little more info on this new order...looks like Alaska also converted one firm order for a 737-700 to a 737-900 for delivery next year. Total orders for the 737NG from Alaska now stand at 12 737-900s (5 delivered) and 19 737-700s (16 in service). Alaska will receive 1 -900 this year and 4 -900s and 3 -700s on 2003. The fleet will total 109 by 2003 according to Alaska CEO Bill Ayer. If this is true then this means that AS will only return one MD-80 by the end of 2003.
