Any Possibility Of ATL-PRG On DL Or Csa?

Sat Jun 01, 2002 6:56 am

Before I start, I did search and found nothing, so if this has been discussed, I'm sorry. With that said, as you know, Delta and CSA are in the Skyteam Alliance together. Do you think that there is any chance of flights between ATL and PRG (Prague) on either Delta or CSA. CSA could feed passengers into Delta's flights in ATL and vice versa for Delta in Eastern Europe. If this is a possibility, do you think that DL or CSA wil fly the route? I would hope that it would be CSA. They could add some variety of airlines to ATL. Did CSA stop their New York service? If they did, ATL would be a great place to get back into the US market because of having a partner with its hub in ATL.

CSA still flies to JFK. They did end service to EWR, however, after 9.11. I don't know what frequency is right now, but as recently as January it was only 4x a week. US-PRG is not a big market. I would not expect to see CSA expand outside of JFK. Have they ever even flown anywhere outside of JFK/EWR? In 1990 they announced MIA-PRG, but the flights never did surface. Have they flown to ORD? Also, I don't think that CSA the A310 can fly PRG-ATL non-stop.

You're probably right about the A310 not being able to make it to ATL from PRG. I don't know, but transatlantic flights (and not all of them) seem to be about the extent of what the A310 can do. They are just not that long ranged. I guess that leaves Delta's 763s as the only option for ATL-PRG.

Actually, now that I remember, Royal Jordanian flew VIE-MIA in the late 1980s with an A310. I think VIE-MIA is longer than PRG-ATL.

In a recent articule in Delta NewsDigest (employee magazine), there was a question about service to PRG. The response stated that Delta would like to eventually servie PRG with their own equipment, and mentioned JFK and ATL as possibile destinations. However, the article also said that this was a long-term goal, and the PRG and PRG-hub markets were not yet developed enough for said plans.
