Double Door Boarding At SFO

Several of United's former 'Shuttle' gates were equipped to bring passengers on to the tarmac to load, and deplane from two doors. Now that Shuttle is gone, do they still use this?

Southwest boards through two doors with a special jetway.

Actually, only some of the gates were equiped with that feature. Gates 78 and 79 had stairs that go out to the ramp. SkyWest is now using gate 78 and they use the stairs for aircraft boarding.

Going way back before Shuttle, weren't Gates 78 and 79 used for United Express flights? It seems to me I remember boarding WestAir Bandits by walking down the stairs at 78. And I also recall boarding a WestAir UAX BAE-146 at 79. So, Shuttle did not originate those stairs.

That was all before UAX was relegated to a remote terminal at SFO.
