ATA New Routes Announced

Tue Jun 04, 2002 4:23 am

I just read today that ATA announced plans to offer non-stop service to New York-LaGuardia and Phoenix beginning September 16.

They will offer two daily flights to/from New York and one flight daily to/from Phoenix, as well as connecting opportunities throughout the day via Chicago-Midway.

ATA also announced plans to further increase the number of scheduled service flights to/from IND.

ATA's additional flight frequencies in Indianapolis on November 19 include:

A second daily non-stop flight to Orlando
A second daily non-stop flight to St. Petersburg, Fla.
A second daily non-stop flight to Ft. Myers, Fla.
A second non-stop flight to Las Vegas.
As previously announced, ATA will add daily direct service to Seattle and six weekly non-stop flights to Los Angeles.

These flights will feature ATA's new Boeing 737-800 aircraft.

With a lack of new gates in MDW and a new aircraft coming every two weeks this move seems to make sense.

America West currently offers nonstop service on PHX-LGA; that's the closest thing to low-fare service on that route. If ATA has a significantly better CASM than America West and can charge significantly less, they should do very well on the route. Otherwise, Phoenix-area FF loyalty to AmWest will probably hurt ATA.

Actually, HP serves LGA via CMH, but have non-stops from PHX to both EWR and JFK. With the termination of the Continental code-share, I don't know if they will continue the EWR service and concentrate on JFK. I had also heard from people within the airline that they wanted to serve CHM-HPN, but the Westchester County government was blocking it due to their desire to repress flights into/out of that airport.

I am confused by your post. Are you saying nonstop LGA-PHX or MDW-PHX, MDW-LGA? I thought they already had MDW-LGA.  Confused

727Lover: It's IND to PHX and IND to LGA. This are the new routes. It seems that ATA is expanding out of IND now instead of MDW. It may be possible, that IND will be a hub and MDW will focus on O&D down the road.

Always nice to see new service from ATA. I'd love to see America West at HPN, that airport needs someone to help keep the fares down there.
