Mongolian Airlines B737-800

Tue Jun 04, 2002 2:38 pm

Mongolian Airlines expects to take delivery of its first Boeing 737-800 when this aircraft arrives at Ulaanbaatar (ULN) on July 9, 2002.

It is supposed to feature the extended wingtips.

Can anyone confirm if this is a new-built aircraft or is it coming off-lease from another operator? If it is a new aircraft, has anyone sighted it at Boeing yet?

Any information pertaining to msn/cn, previous identity etc greatly appreciated, as well as confirmation of the installation of extended wingtips.

Thanks all, for the very quick response.

Mongolian Airlines is reportedly dropping the "MIAT" part of its previous name. MIAT apparently is associated with the Civil Aviation Administration of Mongolia, much like "CAAC" and Air China.

Once again, something not confirmed but the blended wingtip will be painted with the name of the airline in the Mongolian language . . . the Mongolian language should rightly be written vertically, perfect for this part of the aircraft.

Nice idea with the winglets.
Indeed I see the need for more color than this artist's impression shows. Maybe the current livery is a bit dull but in order to attract more tourism, a more exciting scheme would help. (Well I'm not saying that tourists decide on the base of a colorful airline but anyways...doesn't Tahiti appear more exotic than Fiji these days?).
