CO's IAH-ANC 737 Flight

Thu Sep 23, 1999 9:43 am

Aviation Daily says Continental will fly a 737 nonstop Houston-Anchorage next summer. This will be 3266 statute miles, which is farther than Newark-Ireland. Will this be a new record for 737 stage length?

This flight will probably be flown by a NG737, either the -700, or the -800. At any rate these flights have the capability to fly that route, and yes, I do believe that would be a record length flight for the 737. At least, that is, until the NG737 starts trans-Atlantic flights, which will start soon.

The flight will be flown with 757 aircraft, not 737. I verified this from the schedules on Continental's website. That magazine reported the 737 in error.

Thu Sep 23, 1999 2:26 pm

I was looking for a trip to London the other day and I came across one leg from IAH to LGW on a 737?! Yes, a 737!!! Is this possible or did travelocity.com just screw up?

As far as I know, no scheduled 737NG Etops flight exists.

Actually, Aloha operates 737-200 and 737NG ETOPS flights. They're flying, starting February, Honolulu-Oakland with the -700s.

Wasn't failed Swiss airline SwissWorld going to start 737NG service from Basle to Newark to go against the Swissair A310, but went bust before it could intiate any of these services. In fact operations lasted LESS than 2 months, which propelles me to ask this question: Was SwissWorld the shortest running airline, if not, what was?

What is the date of travel? If you give it to me, I'll check on it for you.

This is an error- all IAH-LGW flights are flown by the 777.

CO 34 ops DEN IAH LGW CO 04 ops LAS IAH LGW. Both IAHLGW segments opp with 777's, The DENIAH and LASIAH segments are change of gauge with smaller aircraft. It's possible the article writer just didn't notice the change.

The 737-700 has a range of 3,800 miles...it can make the trip anyway!
