Most pilots work about 14 days a month. 3-4 days on, 3-4 days off. Usually, when you work you are away from home. If you are on reserve duty, you are home more but have to wear a pager and are on call to work on a 2 hour notice. You will work 10-14 hours a day and fly up to 8 hours a day. Most people will respect you for the job you do...some will hate you for it, for different reasons.

There are extremes too... I work 19 days this month and have 1 stretch of 4 days off. The rest of the month are pairs of days off. Most people that hate airline pilots for what we do are people that cannot appreciate the effort and time we've put in to getting the dream job. YOu have to love it to do it, and not many people in the world can say they love their job. So, they get bitter towards people who do. For those that think pilots are greedy and overpaid, they're ignorant to the realities and the true facts of the job as an airline pilot.
They only know the medias representation of our job, not the reality.
