Differences Between The PW4168 And PW4168A

Fri Jun 07, 2002 3:48 am

What are the differences between the Pratt and Whitney 4168 engine and PW4168A that are used on A330 aircraft? Does the 4168A have a higher thrust rating? If so what is it's max thrust? As much or as little information you have would be great.

I dunno, but I'm pretty sure they're rated at 68,000lbs of thrust (hence the *68). Maybe the 'A' variant is improved in some way (efficiency, etc.). You might try asking on the tech board.

The PW4168/PW4168A are rated at the same takeoff thrust (68,600 lbs) at sea level. The PW4168A has better higher altitude performance.

I got this info from the FAA Type Certificate Website.
