Last United 747-400 To Auckland SAT 8th!

Fri Jun 07, 2002 5:05 pm

Just to remind you guys that tomorrow June 8 is the last UA744 service to AKL! I look foward to seeing the 772ER although I like seeing 744's more! I spose a UA772 is different though since they have never been here!
I will probably go to the airport at some stage during the weekend!

If only it departed in the afternoon usually it's partly hidden on the far side of the international terminal with an NZ744 next to it during the day!

Do you guys think the 744 will return to AKL in the future from LAX or perhaps a new UA service to AKL might start from say SFO in the future?

Is the new flt a nonstop to LAX or will it stop at HNL? It's close to 6,500 miles between AKL and LAX. What is the range of the new 777er? Thanks in adance for your replies.

And yet another airline cans their 747-400 service for another aircraft into Auckland.

Singapore Airlines must be the only carrier (aside from NZ and QF of course) to consistently operate 747s into Auckland.

UA are promoting their new 777 really hard! I got invited (thru work) to a famil tour of the 777 on it's first day of operations, including a meal onboard and cockpit tour etc, but declined (doesn't really interest me). But ads are splashed all over industry sheets!

UA will become the first airline to have PTV's in every seat I guess which may help their cause! What have their loads been like lately TG992 can you give us any info?

TG will probably stick with the 747 on their daily SYD-BKK flight although they use -300's 3 times weekly! UA have flown -400's since probably the early 1990's.

SQ are almost certainly changing to 2 777 flights a day instead of 1 744 flight with a long waitlist...

I take it SQ are still waiting for permission for whatever reason it was last time to fly the 772ER's to AKL!? Saw 9V-SMW today!!!

I love the 777, but I hope this only a seasonal adjustment. Where is United redeploying the 400s anyway. I know there a bunch in the desert already.

Does any one know if this is a temp thing? Cause since 9/11 I've flown that route twice and the 747 has been full.

What does this mean for the 747's? Are 2 more of them that are used for this route off to the desert?

Maybe cause of the full flights, they might use 2 772's to increase capacity when things pick up again.

Anyone have info on UAL's 744's in the desert. I'd appreciate any info.

Thanks.

p.s. I gotta get back down there, to get my L&P fix.

ZK-NBT ... UA is NOT the first airline to have PTV's at every seat. I know for a fact, AA's 777 fleet have PTV's and DVD Players throughout the entire aircraft.

Perhaps you meant UA is the first airline to have PTV's at every seat to NZ. But then again, I'm not sure how accurate that statement is either.

Actually, United's 777 fleet had PTVs before American Airlines even owned a single 777. In addition, United's 767 fleet is PTV equiped.

The comment on Ual 777's and PTV's and the 767's having PTV's. Well Continental also has PTV's on all 767-200's, 767-400's, and 777's. So once again UAL may not be the first(i don't know who is) but they could be the first to Auckland.

Yes, UA is the first airline on the America to New Zealand route to have PTV in every seat.

Someone correct me if im wrong, but wasnt AA the first to install PTVs in all cabins on their 3 class A300s about 10 years ago? I know that NWA was the first to offer PTVs in the first class cabin.

UA is the first airline with a PTV in every seat to fly the AKL-LAX route regularly, remember QF operates the 744s with PTVs reasonably often through AKL.
NBT, I heard from Oct-Nov regarding SQ 777s, but that will depend on permission being granted. I'm certainly hoping they do, because I'll be looking for employment about that time... Smile

Sorry guys I meant that UA will be the first airline to have PTV's in every seat on the LAX-AKL flight! I know some QF flights have them on the 744!

If UA is removing 747-400s from this route, do you know where they will put the extra capacity?
