What Is Your Favourite Airline Lounge?

Sat Jun 08, 2002 12:17 am

How do you rate the atmosphere, food and seating comfort ?

I was in the MH Business Lounge at KUL a few months ago. It's a new, very long one and has showers in the back and food in the middle. I wish there were more private, comfortable seats and space the put down your coat/luggage. I've also been in ATL, LAX , DTW, MSp, AMS, MEM, JFK and LHR lounges of different airlines.

What's your experience ? Any photo's available of airport/airline lounges ? I only found this LH one :

Without doubt - SAS (Star Alliance) lounge at CPH. Some people can claim that id does not have enough comfort but you have everything you need. Unfortunately sometimes it is really crowded  Sad

I agree, CPH SAS lounge is just great especially in winter when they lit the fireplace- and upstairs for gold members is usually a little bit less crowded.

Virgin's Clubhouse at LGW is nice. It has a glass wall which has excellent views of the airport (it's located underneath the viewing deck) and you can see aircraft at the gates really close up.
The toilets are very hard to find! The door to them is the same colour as the wall and there's not many signs to show you where they are!
There are computers and a small arcade. Used the complementary phones for ages!
Overall a very nice taste of luxury before I forced myself into my economy class seat  Crying it can't all be perfect!

The VS LHR Clubhouse............. Fantastic.
The conservatory on the roof is great for spotting, and all the differant area's/zones to sit in take away that stuffy business like feeling most airline lounges have.
The large sofa in the (sound proofed) music room is also quite popular with couples.....know what I mean  Wink/being sarcastic

I don't know if it is still open, but my favourite is the old Canadian Empress Lounge in the Domestic terminal at YVR. I was in there since the merger with Air Canada, but that was about 2 years ago. It is very nice.

My personal fav is still the Malaysia Airlines' Golden Lounge in Kuala Lumpur International Airport. I find the large expanse of space very soothing and its the reason why I fly Golden Club Class whenever I can, so that I can use the lounge. I still have not encountered another lounge that comes close to it. Despite the size, the Golden Club section gets very crowded in the evenings. However the First Class side has a "tolerable amount of people.

I like the rerstaurant where you can sit down to a meal amidst a full dining setup. Unlike the rest of the lounges I encountered where you have a small plate and eat at your little corner you conquered.

The entrance to the lounge is simply awesome as well. One word describes it - elegant! Wooden finishes, shallow pools, marble flooring and a bright reception... I am looking forward to the next trip.

By the way, it is the largest airline lounge in the world!

I would like to try Cathay Pacific's lounge in Hongkong because I have heard so much about it. But not before they lower the J Class fares!  Smile

CX's newest lounge at CLK, The Pier, is fantastic with improvements over The Wing. Although The Wing is really the main CX lounge, being closer to the dedicated CX gates of 1-4, it is older and has a few drawbacks like small shower rooms and impractical but stylish sink-vanities in the business class area. That said, The Wing's First Class lounge is near perfect. The Pier is perfect with the exception of it being so far from most CX gates. I cannot imagine a better lounge than The Pier.

Oh by the way, there are spaces for you to store you rluggage and coats at the lounge re. Golden Lounge in KUL! It is situated next to the reception hall to the left... if I remembered correctly.

There is a room for both Golden Club and First Class at the end of the respective lounges for those who prefer more privacy. They are situated at the opposite end of the lounge near to the showers. Both have excellent views of the ramp and the main terminal.

See? You should have explored the lounge!  Smile

Cheers
Ryan

American's Admirals Club at JFK.
Good views (well not so much anymore because of the new terminal construction), Nice food choices, free drinks, nice atmosphere and showers which always feel good.

Sinagpore's Raffles Class Lounge at Changi is amazing!!!!!!!

I was awe struck! I can only imagine what the first class lounge is like -opposite!

You walk into the Raffles lounge and its amazingly big with 2 areas to get food from- Anything from sandwiches to spring rolls, dim sims, and fruit platters!...

Then theres the snooze room where you can lie down on the recliner chairs in a room dedicated to sleeping!

The shower facilities are spotless and sooo refreshing especially after transitting on a flight from Europe or Africa to Australia!.....you get your own shower with mirror and dressing room.. great for a shave! ....

There are computer terminals with internet access.... and a business centre..... as well as a big range of magazines and papers (bigger than elsewhere). the only downside is not having an airside view!

Does the first class Lounge have an airside view???

9.5/10 singapore airlines!!

Ansett767,

Unfortunately, the First Class lounge does not have an airside view. It is a curse for all airline lounges at the world's No.1 airport, because the public viewing gallery that occupies that space, stretches almost the entire length of the airport, followed by the offices.

Plus the First Class lounge was nothing to scream about. I have not been to the Raffles Class one.

If you rate Singapore Airlines 9.5/10 for its lounge, may I suggest you try Malaysia Airlines or Cathay Pacific... MAS' lounge in KUL is out of this world! Check out my trip reports posted by SQ772 where I decribe in details about the lounges of MH and SQ in seperate reports.

Cathay Pacific's, which I have yet try, is pretty cool from the pictures I have seen. Until then, I guess SIA's lounge in Changi is ok.

CO's new lounge (near the new pier) at EWR is very good.

When traveling in Australia/NZ, both QF and NZ have very good lounges with private check-in facilities for premium customers.....nice touch!

Cathay, no the lounge is still the same one. The lounge was renovated around the same time when SIA unveiled their new enhancements in their in flight services... that was in 98/99.

I have not been to many lounges but my favourites are the AF lounge at DUS (very new, a big choice of drinks and snacks, very nice and helpful staff, Internet terminal), the AF lounge at CDG in terminal 2F (very new, direct gate access, TV, big choice of snacks and drinks).

The USO in Seattle; it's awesome. Lounge, free food, shower, bunk beds, and you can stay 24 hours (longer with permission).

I have to agree with Hugo - Cathay Pacific's new lounge "The Pier" is superb and one of the best I have been in. I also like BA's Terraces at LHR T4.

There are three Admirals Clubs that really stick out in my mind.

In no particular order-
New Terminal C Admirals Club at DFW. Great decorating job and comfy chairs with free beverages(i think you have to pay for alcohol). Unfortunately, there is no view of the AA gates. Great kids' area(when i was a little bit younger). There are clocks showing times at different cities

Old ORD Admirals Club(the one nearer to concourse K), nice, spacious, free beverages, incredible view of AA ops and the ORD international terminal. There are clocks showing times at different cities.

LHR Admirals Club- Perfect. Great theme as it some how makes you feel like you are going somewhere far(which you are anyway) as there are a whole lot of clocks with times at major cities and AA hubs. Free beverages and incredible view of T3. I swear I was 50 feet away from the wing of a Singapore Airlines 744!

How can I make directly visible on airliners.net a linked picture ?

I wasn't impressed by the catering at the MH lounge at KUL. Did I miss something (Ryanair!!) ?

The BA Concorde lounges at LHR and JFK. Exclusive and very luxurious. No riff-raff is a great plus (unless you count the horses-arse celebrities who frequent these clubs)!

Youve got to be kidding right? That photo is terrible of the Wing?.....
It looks terribly uncomfortable and under decorated... looks very bare and boring,.....

Just from the photo.....! (sure you dont have any bias towards it! *wink*)

If anybody wants to see the Terminal C Admirals Club at DFW that I was talking about, go to http://www.oneworld.com and click on american. Once you get to the AA section, scroll down and it just so happens that there is a digital tour of that club.
