The most heavily traveled asian routes are probably TPE-HKG, HKG-BKK, NRT-HKG, etc.

I think it was already discussed earlier.

If I'm not mistaken it is HND-CTS (Tokyo-Haneda to Chintose on Hokkaido) or at least another Japanese Domestic flight...

NRT - Osaka is a big one.

Singapore to the US West Coast is also another.

SIN - KUL is very popular.

Now that we're on the topic, why the China Airliners and Eva Air move to Narita airport?

HND-OKD (Sapporo), HKG-TPE, SIN-KUL & MEL-SYD are some of Asia's busiest routes. I read in a HK newspaper (the SCMP) a while ago that according to IATA, HKG-TPE is Asia's busiest international route with 4.7 million passengers traveling between Hong Kong & Taiwan last year. SIN-KUL was the next busiest at 2.7 million. I don't know the numbers for MEL-SYD but I guess it's probably about the same. Tokyo-Sapporo & some of the other busier Japanese domestic routes obviously are far more busier.

Singapore_Air:
NRT is Tokyo's international airport, Haneda Airport (HND) is Tokyo's domestic hub.

Tokyo-Sapporo is the busiest airline route -- not just busiest domestic route, or busiest in Asia, but in the WORLD.

Yeah, HND-ITM is not that popular because you have also the Train which takes around 3hrs but of course there are also quite a lot of Pax on this run...

I agree that Haneda - Chitose (Sapporo) is the busiest in the world. I read about this way back in 1985 when JL 123 crashed in Nagano. The 500-pax configured a/c resulted in the highest number of death for a single air crash.

HKG-MNL is quite popular too. So as Hong Kong-Shanghai.

However, don't expect the HND-CTS route to be the busiest route in the world by 2010, though. Remember, they're already started extending the Tohoku Shinkansen railroad line north of Morioka, and by 2010 direct Shinkansen service from Tokyo to Sapporo may become reality. When that happens watch demand for the HND-CTS route drop quite a bit.

What about HKG-PEK? When I flew that route a few years ago, it always seemed packed

I must mention here, all flights from india (DEL or BOM) to LHR are always booked. This is surely one of the densest routes in Asia. For domestic travel i guess DEL-BOM may come into some contention

Tokyo - Sapporo with close to 9 million passengers annually, Tokyo - Fukuoka is close with 6.8 million.

Bombay-Delhi doesn't even come close at about 2 million annually. Remember that the Indian domestic routes are plied with Boeing 737s or A320s while Japanese Airlines fly large aircraft like 747SRs with over 500 pax per flight.

Raychuang

There are currently no plans, nor budget, for running the Shinkansen to Sapporo.

It periodically gets approved, then shelved, this moment being one of the later. Current plans are to terminate at Aomori city. The cost of expanding the Seikin tunnel - the longest in the world - to accomodate the bigger trains would be horrendous. Besides, this is one of the few trips in Japan where flying would be genuinely faster than the train so why bother ?

SYD to SIN is pretty popular and always full!

There are 3 daily Singapore Airlines flights,
Numerous Qantas ones en route to Europe and India (Frankfurt, London, rome etc)
BA has 2 (i think?)
Egypt Air has one...
plus there are a few more i cant think of.....

Are there any more?

Boeingnut, you're right. HKG-PEK route was almost fully packed a few years ago.

At current stage, it seems HKG-PEK is still very popular, but at least you could get a seat easier than before.

So far, Dragonair operates 6 daily flights (direct) between Beijing and Hong Kong. Air China usually operates 5 daily flights (direct) between Beijing and Hong Kong and China Southern Airlines also serves a daily direct flight between Beijing and Hong Kong.

TPE-HKG I think... but then it'll all change when TPE-SHA/PEK is established

basically i think the HKG-TPE-NRT artery is the biggest money makers for the airlines these days
