Which Airlines Post World Cup Scores Inflight?

Tue Jun 11, 2002 11:51 am

CX posts World Cup scores as one of the screens on the airshow.

I heard SQ is doing something also. Any other airlines keep us updated inflight?

( not counting JetBlue who have live TV!)

Continental do not have an inflight service for this, but if you ask the Captain nicely, he will get it for you

Artsyman, really? My funniest experiance with ATC is when I was on a PIA flight in jump seat and the captain asked a BA captain cricket results.

Yeah, I have one more story. I was on a BA flight from JFK-LHR. This was on the day after the World Series in 1996 when the Yankees won. ATC had just cleared us up to FL390. The ATC left his microphone on and was pretty much talking smack about the Yankees. The pilot, who was British and didn't know anything about baseball asked about the World Series. For about 45 minutes this guy kept us on frequency and explained the entire game of baseball to the pilot. It was great stuff!

Official statement from Virgin Atlantic re: World Cup Scores

"Our passengers won’t be missing any of the World Cup action this June as our pilots will be communicating the World Cup football scores (where possible) over the PA system for passengers who are travelling during the World Cup. The scores will be announced on all routes to countries competing in the tournament including England, USA, China, Japan and Nigeria, plus the results from Ireland’s games. As well as this there will be screenings of weekly highlights over the course of the tournament plus a Best Goals programme at the end. The first highlights programme will be screened from Tuesday 4th June on the Weekly News and Sports channel."

On the first sunday in January, I was flying BOS-ATL and inflight, the captain started announcing football scores.

I just would've loved to be that UA captain flying into Lisbon last week...."Um yeah, Lisbon approach, any idea what the score is in the world cup?" Hahahaha!
