Just a few observations,

a) Who's stake are they going to buy?

b) Non controlling stake - thought they would have learnt by now?

c) Seems their overtures to QF to join Star was a dismal failure if true?

d) If true, where does this rate on the loss of face scale?

Arguably they have already paid for Virgin Blue once - whose money financed the launch of Virgin Blue ??!!

Sir RB must enjoy his generous Singapore benefactors !

If true, it will be interesting to see what SQ pay for a chunk, keeping in mind that Corrigan paid $AUD250 ($USD 125) mil for 50%.

Yes Airbus1, the bearded one must be lapping it up.

Good questions, I thought I was seeing things when I came
across the report, as it was only a couple of hours ago will
be interesting to see if Dr Choong denies the report or not.

This together with the rumours of DJ putting some business
seats as well as talk of lounges at main trunk airports might
have some truth to it, might be a cheaper alternative to
starting a 3rd start-up.

a) Who's stake are they going to buy? - Dunno  Laugh out loud

b) Non controlling stake - thought they would have learnt by now? - They better have

c) Seems their overtures to QF to join Star was a dismal failure if true? - Dunno yet

d) If true, where does this rate on the loss of face scale? - Loss of face?  Laugh out loud

Well this is interesting however let's keep it in perspective. The article actually says SIA is likely to buy in DJ, not SIA it to buy in DJ as the topic indicates, so lets take it with a pinch of salt, caviar and baked barramundi fillet wrapped in banana leaf.

It's a broker, not much else. Bah.

In a way, don't they already own some of it? Could Sir Richard just swap them some of their shares of VG for shares of DJ? But the question is, will this turn into an Ansett redux?

More analysts in Singapore are now betting on a SQ/DJ tie-up reports
Dow jones, read a more detailed outlook, including the tip of SIA
buying 25% of Virgin Blue:

http://sg.biz.yahoo.com/020612/15/2zguu.html

The big rumour for today is that Virgin Blue have bought the
Melbourne jet base, announcement imminent.

Hmm... Mx_5 Boy is absent from this thread so far. No more rantings about how SQ is trying to destroy Aussie aviation?

Ryanair!!!,

Your comments are banal at most. SQ have done their bit amongst others.

It's interesting to read all these reports. What is most disturbing is why SQ would want to buy into DJ? DJ's business model is on the cheap and cheerful mode of transport. Does an SQ backed domestic airline in Oz leave such a distaste in ones mouth that they are willing to back DJ instead.

And of course those lovely rumours about NZ starting a domestic carrier here. Uh yeah right.

To be truthful it would make not one iota of difference if it was a DJ ramp up on core trunk routes or an independent operator. The rumours from the AN administrators are hinting at talks between major carriers for a big chunk of AN assets to start afresh.

Whatever the case, QF will be there and supported by the minister for QF.

Funny how it all reverts back to a duopoly.

Kudo's to the star alliance for wanting to woo QF. Desperate times huh?

The Australian aviation industry has been the target of macro and micro economic reform for some time. Nothing has been gained really except a lowering of wages for workers and lowering of service to the public. Now ATC is being targetted.

Wirraway,

Just in relation to the last link you posted, I travelled to Europe in early 2001 to have a look at some 767's for AN. We flew British Midlands from London to Brussels, probably under an hours flight from memory, however, 2 classes present and full food service. The article suggests otherwise for BMI. Anyone confirm? Have BMI changed since?

Wirrway: Just a question. Where do you get all this news?

Whenever I search for Singapore Airlines or even Airline , all I get it crap stuff from 3 June 2002 and nothing new.

Despite two very stern e-mails to Yahoo Singapore I still cannot get anything and this is making me very angry!

I would appreciate it if you could tell me where you search because at this rate I've given up with those incompetent people there.
