Should NW Start Domestic 742 Service?

Ok, since the DC10-40's will be gone soon here, and I'm not too sure where the '30's will be placed, should NW use a couple of its 742's soly for the highest density domestic routes out of DTW and MSP?

Yes, they should, but I don't think they will. They will probobly use smaller aircraft, like 752's.

You do know they are set to receive the whole load of 753's soon too, don't ya?

DTW/ORD Fan!- Then they will definatley use the 753's, they are probobly buying 753's to replace the DC-10's.

no, NW should not

747-200's are getting expensive to operate and maintain, and are more suited to longer sectors, certainly more than any NW domestic route.

Secondly, NW does not need an a/c of 747 capacity for its domestic services.

As stated, the 757-300s will assume the highest density routes when they join the fleet, supplemented later, when neccessary, by the A330s.

How many A330s are NW to recieve? all 300s? any 200s?

Northwest is slated to recieve only 330-300s. 24 on order and options are held for another 36. 298 passenger seating (2 class) just as their DC-10-40s. Hope this helps a little!

NW does not fly 747s on domestic routes anymore...the last one was a daily flight MSP-LAX-MSP that was pulled when ship 6602 (the last 747-100) was retired last year.

IMHO, NW shouldn't fly the 747 on domestic flights, and stick with high frequencies of flights to give travelers like myself better connections and choices, which I believe is their strategy as we speak.

NWA MAN - actually the last 3 remaining 747-100s were ships 6601, 6603 and 6608. They were dedicated to the beach market between NRT - HNL and NRT-GUM/SPN. They were high density configs flying these routes for the remaining years of their lives at NW. NW hasn't had regularly scheduled domestic 747 service besides HNL for a long time.

And no, to answer the question, NW should not deploy 747s domestically! What kind of a hair brained idea is that? Certianly not one with economics or common sense built into it!

757-300 24 first/200 coach
and the only 747 domestic is msp-hnl in fall/winter sked...
