Certainly surprising that there are no pics anywhere. Are they stealthy or what?

Anyway, good to have another Canadian carrier.

Where did these guys come from? Talk about coming out with guns blazing! Hot damn. Any idea how old the aircraft are? I hear they are originally from Korean airlines. Personally, I wouldn't want to fly yvr-yyz on a md80. very cramped to say the least

Yeah no kidding...they have been doing circuits in YHU all week, I guess you were right there must not be any cameras in Montreal!! I was going to go take some shots of it this morning, but I didnt have any film  Sad I did see it land though, looked good...I wonder if they have a "Walmart Greeter" on ever flight  Smile

From what I hear seat pitch is good, with only 160 seats it is not too too cramped, the first 2 are from KAL the 3rd one is an AA machine...the two KAL birds are 94 and 96, not sure about the 3rd one, its not on the transport site yet....

I read somewhere that they are all going to be pretty new in age. They said that is where they will save some money buy buying newer aircraft rather then old ones. So I am sure it will be the same age??

Is the YYZ-YVR nonstop? That is a long leg for the MD-83.

As for comfort, I prefer the MD-80 to the A320/737/757. 3-2 seating is more comfortable than 3-3.

I dumped at the gybe mark in strong winds when I looked up at a Porter Q400 on finals. Can't stop spotting.

The 83 has a 25 or 2600 NM reach so YVR doable....

YYZ (43°41'N 79°38'W) YVR (49°11'N 123°11'W) 2084 mi

MD-83s can go 4635 KM or 2880 miles. Easily reachable.

 Big thumbs up

The MD80's are loud airplanes, from the outside anyway...inside even in the back they are very quiet....besides a little bit of noise is good, after the loss of the DC9 in Canada it's nice to hear some loud airplanes again...enough of the plastic stuff...

Yes i agree, love to hear the nosie, but i was thinking those people who live near YUL, (i guess they thought hey lets buy this cheap house, it must be so quiet next to this international airport), i can just hear them complaing already.

Flight Level-
May I ask where you got that map from? Was it a website that you could just punch the info into or did you photoshop the line on there?

On another note, do you get to talk technical stuff with the US Airways CEO much? I think that was you that just posted about living next to his wife...anyway, thanks for your time!

Actually I think range is the reason Michel got the -83s (plus Korean maybe wanting to give theirs up for fleet streamlining reasons, I guess), since the -83 is the 'extended range' derivative of the MD-80 family.

And yes, nice to see the 9 --even a biggie variant like the MD-83-- in Canadian skies again, so soon after AC more-or-less retired their DC-9-30s.

Northwest 777, the website is http://gc.kls2.com/ . You type in the airport codes, and the website does the great circle routing.

I saw Jetsgo takeoff last night around 7:30 pm from YUL. I didn't find the plane that loud. Any way, it was climbing SO SLOWLY, this suggests that the plane was full. Isn't it great to have an eastern discount airline!

Looks like a neat airline. Hope Air Canada doesn't swallow them up like they did Canjet. Unfortunately if I ever get to fly them it will be a long time, since I'm in the US and it'll be awhile before I get to go to Canada.  Sad Anyways, about the Mad Dogs (MD-80s). I know you guys in Canada aren't very used to them, but we get a whole lot of them in Kansas City. I'd be willing to bet that probably 20-40% of our flights are operated with MD-80 aircraft. Vanguard is, as many of you know transitioning to an MD-80 fleet of 13-16 aircraft, American flies almost entirely MD-80s to DFW, STL, and ORD, Delta flies a large number of their 20+ flights to ATL, CVG and SLC with MD-80 and MD-90 aircraft, Midwest Express operates three MD-80s to MKE in addition to their DC-9 ops to 7 other cities, and a couple or three of the USAirways flights are operated by MD-80s in the old colors, I believe mainly to CLT. They've never struck me as a noisy aircraft, of course when I've been able to compare them to other planes it's been against some of the surprisingly large numbers of DC-9s and 727s we used to, and still do get, although the majority of flight ops here at MCI are done with 737s, MD-80s and a few A320s, A319s, and 757s.

Where do you see USAirways MD-80s this time?
They are all gone. Last revenue flight for US MD-80 was March 31, 2002.

AeroGlobeAir7, Air Canada didn't swollow up CanJet, Canada 300 did, but AC is one of the reasons the died. Did you know that CanJet is returning though? Their first flight will be on the 20th of June.

I don't mind the MD-80 as I have flew it a few times to ATL from YUL. It's a nice aircraft and I don't really think it is that load.

I was at my house, the plane flew right over us. Comparing to the A320 or 737-300, I found the sound level average. Sometimes A320 is really loud. It has this weird sound to it though.

Northwest 777, I assume by technical that you mean about the fleet? He said that they like the Airbus narrowbodies. That is all he commented on that subject.
