744/744F Crew Question

Thu Jun 13, 2002 9:51 pm

A couple of days ago at LHR, I saw a CX 744F and an SQ 744F parked at the cargo terminal, and also could see SQ 744 and CX 744 pax a/c at T3.

The question I have is do these airlines use separate crews for freighters and pax a/c or is it possible that they could fly both a/c types ?.

Actually, we do not use the same. The freighter crews only fly freighters, and the passenger crew fly freighters only if there is a shortage of a freighter crew at the time. The contracts are different.

If I have my info right our crews fly both...

I mean, why not (other than contractual issues etc.) if you're rated for the 747-400 whether it's a freighter or a pax bird should not matter too much.

At LH you fly either cargo or pax. LHC and LH mainline are separate legal entities.

I guess it makes it a little more interesting flying the 2 varients, i.e. destinations served etc.
Also better on the c.v. if they are looking for a new job  Smile

with eva, 744 crews fly all versions (full-pax, combi and full cargo).

At singapore airlines the 744 crew fly both types, although all crews are with SIA. SQC (Singapore Airlines Cargo) has to hire crews from SIA, but before this split there were plans to have seperate crews.
