AA/TWA 767's

Fri Jun 14, 2002 5:54 am

I thought I heard that AA was getting rid of all of TW's 767's and they weren't going to repaint them, yet nearly every morning, when I drive past STL (Lambert) at about 9 there is usually a 767 in full AA colors taking off. AA hasn't sent one of there 767s to STL have they?

Also, what is the deal with the 767 still in full TW colors that is almost always parked west of the main terminal near the air guard station?

Could be, I'm not sure. I always drive past STL every morning on my way to work so it is a balancing act between looking at what is going on at the airport and keeping my eyes on the road. I just know it seems to be permanently parked there, so I don't have the tail number

But it is the right livery, it is in the last TW livery. Yeah, a lot of MD-80s and I think I have seen some 717s parked over there too

Just went through STL the other day. I to saw the TWA 767's and a TWA 717. The plan is still to return the P&W 767. When the exact date is I'm not sure.

Are they getting rid of their 762's? On their site, they stopped including seating charts for the 762 and now have 763 international, hawaii and 763 ex TWA seating charts only. Of course, they forgot about the ERJ-140 for a little while too.....

I think they got rid of the 767-200's already. TWA had 10 or 11 of those. The last one left a year ago, just after the AA/TWA deal was finalized. I'm talking about the TWA 762's, of course American still has those.
No, the ex-TWA 763's are not getting the full AA livery, because American decided not to keep them, that's why they ordered a few more brand new GE powered 767-300's. The TW 763's are keeping that livery shown above until retirement schedule comes, so do the 717's. The only thing I'm wondering is if they are going to dump the 757's (I saw one last month in FLL, it was still in the TWA livery) because they are facing the same problem as with the 767's, the power plant. TWA 757/767's are PW equiped and AA 757/767's are not, those are RR and GE equiped respectively.

Once again.....

All ex-TWA MD-80's & 757's are now in full AA colors.
The remaining 717's will be pulled from service tomorrow, June 14th.
The TWA 762's were retired in April 2001.
The TWA 763's will be around until spring/summer 2003, they are not being repainted. Those 9 763's are the only aircraft in TWA colors still flying around.

As to why you saw an AA 767 in STL, good question. Maybe it was a 757?

TWA had 12 762s & 10 763s. The 762s are long gone, while 9 763s that made the crossover to AA will be retired shortly. AA originally ordered 15 new 763s from Boeing with GE engines to replace the PW-powered 763s still in TWA's livery. AA has since cut back this order to 9 new airframes now. As for the 27 757s TWA had, AA is keeping all of those for the foreseeable future. Regards.

It is not a 757. The first time I drove by there and saw that that is exactly what I thought, but now that I have seen it several times I am sure it is a 767 in full AA colors. Oh well, the search for the mystery 767 continues
