How To Get Jumpseat...RyanAir

Sat Jun 15, 2002 1:17 am

Hey Everyone...
Looks like I'll be making some trips on RyanAir next between London and some other European Cities. I'm currently a CFI, Certified Flight Instructor, and could only dream about being able to sit up front in the 737. My question is what is the best way to go about getting it. Ask the Gate Agent, or ask the pilot as I board.... Look forward to hearing your tips!
Cheers,
Steve

Hi.

I obtained a jumpseat for landing and take-off on an FR 737-800 flight to Aarhus from Stansted. I simply asked the cabin crew whether I could visit the flightdeck, and the flightcrew obliged, later inviting me to stay for the landing, and return flight to Stansted.

I don't know whether Ryanair still allow visits up front, although there's no harm in trying.

I asked a gate agent if it would be ok to visit the cockpit for my flight to Prestwick, but was refused, being told that it was a Ryanair-staff only privilage.

Regards

Asking the gate agent probably won't help. A Ryanair gate agent appears at the gate a few minutes before boarding starts, and there is simply no time for anybody to contact the captain in advance to tell him about your inquiry. In fact, a Ryanair gate agent always seems to be to be in a hurry to do the boarding as quickly as possible, there is no time for anything else.

Asking the cabin crew during boarding to ask the captain is probably more realistic. Showing them your company ID card will probably help, too. But of course, it depends on the company you work for. Last september I tried to get the jumpseat on a Sabena flight. Unfortunately, there was still "Swissport" written on my ID card, and of course there was no chance... But if you do not work for LH, I'm sure the name of the company won't be a problem  Big grin
