First Condor B767 Repainted In Thomas Cook Livery

Mon Jun 17, 2002 2:19 am

Just thought I'd draw your attention to this...

The first photo on airliners.net of Condor's B767-330 ER D-ABUZ, which is photographed after rollout in the new Thomas Cook - powered by Condor livery.

I actually like it better than the Condor scheme, but the Thomas Cook titles look a little lost on the side of the fuselage windowline, they could do with being larger and bolder.

I also of course that for the Germans the loss of Condor to a British brand somewhat equates to the loss of Britannia to a German one!

I heard that condor was just causing a loss of income to its parent company, Lufthansa, and they decided to sell it so that they could get back in the black

Sorry, Due to correcting a typing mistake I overtyped a word completely in the penultimate sentance, which should read;
-----
I also of course understand that for the Germans the loss of Condor to a British brand somewhat equates to the loss of Britannia to a German one!

Typical livery reflecting the current times we're in. I like the choice of colours, though.

"I also of course understand that for the Germans the loss of Condor to a British brand somewhat equates to the loss of Britannia to a German one!"

Thomas Cook is a German company, has been for many years. Britannia was a Canadian company before being taken over by a German company.

The only true Brits are Airtours / My Travel, and that has pretty much always been the case.
I used to love the smell of Jet-A in the morning...

Between the 2 major leisure european group THOMAS COOK and TUI

THOMAS COOK is the winner , great and very class livery
TUI very very poor, sad , don't give the pleasure to fly with them!

Man I guess that Aviation is getting stranger every day...
Condor has been a proud German Charter airline since it was founded in the 50's and now they mess it up with such an ugly livery...  Pissed At least the titles suck. But I guess that we in Europe will just have to live with it... first they took away our precious currency and now they are messing up our airlines... what's next?

Ugly!
First they give us that ugly Hapag Lloyd livery and now?
Thomas Cook what a nice name for an Airline!
This is disgusting.
I heard that a lot of Pilots try to move away from Thomas cook and come back to LH.
I can't understand the decision to repaint all ACs. I mean Condor was a name! Guarantee for safety and friendly crews. The small Sticker on the nose of some Condor ACs is enough, they should keep the Condor livery!

I agree with Max and Bjoern. It seems to me that all the travel companies want their own airline. It all started with the ST 737`s in TUI and Tjaerborg livery. Now we have lost HF (TUI) and DE (Thomas Cook). Maybe LT is the next, unfortunately!

I love the livery. But it's a stupid move to drop the airline name CONDOR. Germany is not the UK, where Caledonian and Flying Colours become JMC, and a few years later Thomas Cook; Airtours becomes MyTravel - British passengers don't seem to mind. German tourists however are very hesitating to fly any charter airline whose name they haven't heard before. In fact there were only three airlines a typical German tourist would fly without hesitating: Condor, LTU and Hapag-Lloyd. Even when they fly with quality airlines like Aero Lloyd, Germania or Air Berlin, if they haven't heard the name of the airline before, they think it's a cheap unsafe airline. When I worked for flyFTI, how often did I hear the question "How old is this aircraft?", a question I don't hear very often when working at the check-in for Hapag-Lloyd or LTU flights. They simply trust in those three airlines: Condor, Hapag-Lloyd, LTU. After the Birgenair crash, there was a policy among many German tourists "If you haven't heard the name of the airline before, don't fly with that airline", and many passengers still don't want to fly with an airline whose name they never heard before.

I agree, the font on the fuselage is ugly, and the fuselage looks too empty in general  Sad

This was one of the worst decisions the LH management ever made.

It looks nice and you will see them and hear them on the frequency all around the world. Thomas Cook = 85 aircraft. And for the pilots leaving, they're afraid they're going to lose their Lufth. contract and seniority if Lufth. gets out of Thomas Cook.

I have never been a Condor fan, but that new livery just sucks, it stinks and whatever!  Pissed Pissed Pissed

I'm glad we still have good old LTU and Air Berlin...

...plus Aero Lloyd, Germania and newcomer Hamburg International. Not every charter airline in Germany has been amalgamated by some "borg".

Trading in the well-established and trusted Condor-brand for an idea that must have been bred in a marketing think-tank that has gone mad - I detest the new name and livery.
Yuck!
Let's see what reverberations the decision to drop Condor will have on the German market.

I´m really interested how they´re going to market this new stuff.

I find the livery per se OK, but I question the approach of dropping the Condor brand. But, I´m not yet sure to what extent it will be dropped after all:
- Condor Flugdienst GmbH will continue to exist.
- "powered by Condor" makes quite clear who is in charge of the a/c actual ops. Quite like the "Operated by Augsburg Airways/Cirrus Airlines/Contact Air etc." stickers on the Team LH planes.
- The flights will continue to operate under DE flight number.

There´s still hope.

Daniel Smile

P.S.: As a sickbag collector, I hope they do away with those boring LH bags on DE planes.
Anyone know what´s going to happen to Condor Berlin, a 100% subsidiary of Condor?

Just have to say no! I hope that I will still manage to fly Condor... in an aircraft with a full Condor livery.

Well,i have to say that it is a pity to see the beautiful yellow tail to disappear, but any way, what can we do...it is globalization !!!

I think the 757 will be smart looking in the Thomas Cook livery, but i just wanted the Condor sticker to be more apparent, and why not a yellow quadron with the condor braking wings next !!!
Next flight TUN-YUL Tunisair A330-243.

Seriously I still have problems to understand why to sacrifice such a well established brand like Condor for a new identity which the average travelling German never heard of. Fine, the code may remain DE for a while, also there's that little "powered by Condor" sticker, but what does the normal passenger see? An aircraft with bold "Thomas What?!?" titles on it....

That is like rebranding Mercedes Benz as "Budweiser light" and then wondering why the customers start buying more Audis and BMWs instead....

Sick livery, sick idea. Condor was the airline I did my very first flight with (B727 in 1974). I will really miss them.
