Air France 773=new Livery?

Mon Jun 17, 2002 12:57 pm

I read somewhere (pls forgive me -- not sure where) that AF is rumored to be planning a new livery to coincide with the 777-300 deliveries next fall.

Any truth to that?

I dunno... that livery has quite a history... but I think it's time to break the cycle

There's been a rumor like this preceeding the delivery of the first A330-200, too, so I wouldn't be too optimistic. AA has kept their livery for more than 30 years now, so some liveries become timeless classics. IMO, AF's "Eurowhite" is another example for this phenomenon.
I wouldn't mind to see a new livery on my favorite airline though.  Smile

I think that if AF wanted to change its classic livery (that after 25 years still looks fresh to me), they should wait for the A380 to arrive and not do it on such a mediocre event like introducing a derivative of a already wellknown type.

I agree with you Na. Anyway, as you said, the AF livery still looks "fresh". This livery may be quite boring, but like the Alitalia and Iberia liveries, they don't really need to be changed. Those liveries lasted for years, and they're still great.

If they are going to keep their livery, maybe they should start cleaning their planes more, im sure they wud look a lot better. A sparkling white air france scheme would look quite good, but i have hardly ever seen a plane like that with air france colours on it!!!
Maybe they should invest in a washing system for their planes rather thanw aste a lot of money on a new livery design.
I must say i dont particularly like the livery, though it does look better when it is clean, especially on the A340's.
I dont like the font either!! but i guess that wont change easily!

Maybe a new livery is in order, but like others have suggested, maybe they ought to wait until the A380s come into the fleet. What AF ought to do is introduce a special Skyteam livery on the first 773 that they get, which could also be some sort of a basis for a future AF livery.

I think the AF A330-200 is the best looking Airbus out there largely because of the livery. The AF livery still looks good after all these years. It is a true classic.

For years, the AF livery never looked "old-fashionned" contrary to the Delta old livery that looks really bad today, that's why I thing AF shouldn't change their livery. As N79969 said, it's a classic that still can last many years in the future. If AF change the livery, it's not sure they'll find a better and as classic as the actual one.
About the dirty AF planes,it's sure that they've got more dirty planes than other airlines. BUT if you search in the A.net database you'll find hundreds of clean AF planes and only a few dirty ones.

I'd agree with some you that the AF livery looks fine, but if AF was to plan on changing to a new livery, it's probably likely that it'd do it with an A380, rather than on a 777-300.

By the way, when exactly is AF supposed to take delivery of its first 773?

Well said, but the same applied to the old El-Al livery...and the airline nevertheless decided to abandon it after 3 decades of success...!

Yes, but lots I've seen more people that prefer the old El Al livery than the new one.

I'm one of the people who likes the old El Al. AF's current livery is pretty flexible. Their 742Fs with the tail in gray and black is cool.

I was in Tokyo last week and saw an Air France 747-400 arrive at the gate. It had to be the dirtiest looking plane I have ever seen!!! And it was not an anomaly. I've seen several 747s and 777s at Newark and Kennedy that look desparate for a wash.

On the other hand, I actually do like their livery. It is classic, simple, and timeless. What I would like to see is them extending the blue and red stripes on the tail into the fuselage section as well.

Dont count on it.....Air France was the originator of the EuroWhite Scheme and it is a tradition. Air France did, for a short while, try a silver stripe at window level, to modify the livery on its 744s in the mid-1990s but quickly dropped the idea.

European airlines have had difficulty with the livery issue......we all know the BA story and SAS has had limited success with its new look (I think is attractive, but many do not agree)......so I do not think Air France, which has made an amazing comeback, is going to fuss with its look at this time.

I agree with many of the statements above concerning "dirty aircraft".....many of the airliners in all white schemes look horrible and neglected. If one decided to buy a white car, you accept the fact that you will spend more time at the carwash, isn't the same true for airliners?

Air France's livery may look pretty bare, but I must admit, it is one of the few I really like these days. Air France has one of those timeless liveries. I would kill to see it stay. I agree too that it looks incredible on the A330's.
