Virgin Operating To Athens?

Tue Jun 18, 2002 8:31 am

I'm trying to book my mom on a flight from NYC to Athens. VS seems to offer the lowest fare from JFK, but the connecting flight to Athens will be operated by BA. I asked the salesman about the connection and why I couldn't take VS directly to Athens and he said that they cancelled the route. When did VS pull out of Athens and why? I read on here before about them selling a LHR-ATH frequency to BA, but I thought they had others? Are they planning on going back in? Aside from the no-frills carrier, does Virgin offer any other flights to Continental Europe? Thanks!

Hello,

What you can do: VG Airlines offers daily flights from NYC to Brussels, and has a coöperation with Virgin Express for connecting flights.

So, maybe instead of going via LHR, you can take a VG Airlines A332 to Brussels, and than with a VEX B737 to ATH.

Regards,
Frederic

Doesn't VS offer New York to LGW? Or is that still operated by Continental? This could be done with a transfer to EasyJet for LGW to ATH. I beleive Easyjet are starting this service 1 July.

Thanks for the responses.

Frederic: I didn't know that VG Airlines even flew to JFK! I'll look into them.

Incubus: I don't think VS flies to LGW from any NYC gateway, unless you're talking about the CO codeshare. VS used to operate an EWR-LGW flight, but they may have switched it over to LHR.

You could obviously take VS to LON from NYC (LHR) then take Easyjet's flight to ATH from LTN if you want.

VS pulled the route last year 'cos it wasn't making enough money to justify keeping one A321 in the fleet (crews/maintainence etc.) after the Virgin Sun operation was sold off and the other A320/A321's were grounded.

Hello Rai,

Check this site out for schedules and other information:

http://www.vgair.be

For Americans, the return price is US$ 295 excluding taxes, but this price is a promotional fare. Check the site out for the conditions.

VG Airlines is a Belgian start up airline, I would certainly give them a try.

And with such a lovely colourscheme, and such a comfortable A330-200, what do you want more  Wink/being sarcastic

Another thing: the flights are quite empty at the moment, so you have a very big chance that you have a whole row with 4 seats for you allone.

Best regards,
Frederic
