Which A/C Has The Funnest Take Off?

Wed Jun 19, 2002 5:13 am

Which A/C do you think gives the funnest take off while riding in it? Id say the MD-80's.

Need clarification here. What specifically do you mean by "funniest"?

This, my friend, is BY FAR the funnest takeoff in the world. However, I also like the takeoff of an ATA 757-300 taking off out of MDW en route to MCO.
I don't know, so this is my signature.

A 757 out of SNA. That thing goes up like a rocket.

Been on a 737 out of SNA, and it isn't even close.

One I will never forget is the Twin Otter......it creeps along the runway really slow for about 5 seconds then hovers upwards like it is a puppet on a string!!!  Smile Hilarious to watch!!!

The 757 is like a Corvette...powerful engines with a light body. I love flying in them. The L1011 also will pin you in your seat.

757s out of EGE(vail). Right after takeoff there is a steep right turn and it makes you jump a little bit. Not just out of EGE, but everywhere, 757s are a lot of fun.

For fast takeoffs, I really like turboprops, like the Beech 1900D. They will really pin you back!

I would love to take off in a 757! It sounds like fun.
I would have to say that the 727-200 takeoff is really crappy. The plane takes a looong time to get up to rotation speed and the climb is almost horizontal! Its not very fun!

Iron Annie!! Back in the 1970's a JU-52 was being restored in MIA for the aviation author, Martin Caidin. Standing near the depature end of 9L looking back down the runway (10,000 ft long), I would see the JU-52 start its take-off run, lift off, level off, and minutes later fly by me. I think that this is the same airplane that is owned by Lufthansa.  Laugh out loud

Try Concorde...

Wed Jun 19, 2002 11:09 pm

I've flown Concorde three or four times and there's nothing to beat it. The first time, I was checking other people's faces to make sure this was normal - the noise, the acceleration and the the climb rate. The regulars just sat there either reading or looking out of the window like they were in a 152... I'm used to it now but what an experience the first time. Approach is unnerving too - a very high AoA and you're waiting for it to stall!

Hi,
my favourite is the dh8-Q400. If you take off with headwinds it's really amazing. I guess we had about 1500-2000ft at the end of a 11000ft runway. Great feeling. And it's very smooth during the flight.
The MD80s are not bad as well. They have a steep pitch during take off.
20 degrees compared to the usual 10-15 degrees in other jets...

I rode a backward-facing seat in a Sabreliner. It climbed out very steeply, and I was hanging by my seatbelt.

Chi-Town: Hahaha, you are soo right. 727s rotate super late and take forever to climb!

I have to say that the most fun I've ever had during takeoff had to have been on an Airbus A340-313X, leaving ORD for MUC! LH!

The McDonnell Douglas MD-95 with it's flaps 1 takeoff provides a smooth and steep takeoff. It rises off of the runway gently, and then goes steep. IT RULES!!!!!!!

F-14 off a carrier...

No, seriously.

Once you leave the deck of the carrier, your nose is in a 10 degree climb...and you find that you're actually below the flight deck level of a carrier...

that's a weird take-off.

Private Leer Jets and MD-80's that are 10% full are by far the best take offs anyone can get!
