A Few Questions About DL...IFE And Meal Service?

Sun Jun 23, 2002 9:53 am

Hello again,

I finally booked DL to get to HSV (BIL-SLC-ATL-HSV-ATL-SLC-BIL) and had a few questions:

-What does the snack in coach consist of on the 767-300/ER aircraft from ATL to SLC?

-Is there any IFE in coach on a somewhat long domestic flight? (almost 4 hours, SLC-ATL, 757, ATL-SLC, 767-300/ER).

The flight from and to SLC will not be almost four hours. It should be more like 3. Anyways, I checked my Delta timetable and there are movies on the flight from and to SLC. The timetable is the most current one, so it should be accurate. I have flown Delta many many times and lots of those between either CVG or ATL and SAN and there has never been Airshow longer than about 15 minutes. Maybe you'll get lucky though, but with a movie, there won't be a lot of time to show much else. There are no PTVs in coach on the 757s and 767s in Delta for domestic or international flights. In fact, the only Delta aircraft with PTVs in coach is the 777. The 763ERs, the MD-11s, and the 777s have them in Business Elite. Just a tidbit of information for you. On your flights between SLC and ATL, you will have to buy headphones for $5 I think. They hurt my ears because they are just these plastic tubes with some foam around the end where your ear goes. The ones for the 777 economy are better, but you won't be on a 777 because those don't fly between ATL and SLC. The snack will just be a little bag of a trail mix sort of thing, but without the M&Ms or anything sweet. I like it though. A drink will come along with it too. Sometimes they give you the whole can (if it's soda), sometimes they just give you the cup, and once or twice, they have given me a choice as to what I want. I have flown DL a lot though, so as you can see, two times is not much when you consider my total flights on DL. You'll be in ATL at a good time to see flights leaving for Europe, so be sure to check out the E terminal if you have any time. It is the international terminal. Besides seeing DL 777s, MD-11s, 763s, and a few 757s and 738s (to Latin America), you can see a BA 777, Lufthansa A340-200 (maybe, I think it gets to ATL in the hour of 5, so kind of late for you to see it), and an AF A330-200 and 777-200. I've never seen the A330 from AF in ATL, but my timetable says that it comes here. DL is in Skyteam with AF as you probably know, so some of AF's flights are in the DL timetable. Anyway, enjoy your trip a lot and I hope this helps!

Yeah, I'm looking forward to seeing all the international traffic.. I haven't seen an MD-11 up close for a while.

Serge, if your longhaul is at mealtime, (ATL-SLC) the "snack" is either a sandwich or a salad with bits of chicken. The sandwich is usually sliced turkey with separate bag of mayo in a slightly soggy round roll. They both come with a cookie and a piece of cheese and cracker. If it's not mealtime, (your overnight SLC-ATL) then just standard beverage service. The ATL/HSV mainline flight will be "fastbreak", which includes a choice of water, lemonade or some kind of fruit drink, plus a bag of snack-mix or a little cookie. The RJ flights will have beverage service that includes Cokes and coffee and snack-mix or cookie.

Not a gastronomic delight, to be sure, but adequate to tide you over. If you think you may get hungry, buy a burger to go at the airport prior to boarding.

Have a nice trip.  Smile

Oh...forgot the rest ... IFE.....the 757 and 767's do not have individual sets, so you have to watch (if you want) what is shown in the cabin. If they show a movie, there is a $5 charge. When the movie is over, or if there is no movie, the headsets are free and you can listen to music or watch the Delta news/variety show tha includes some episodes of popular TV sitcoms.

By the way, are you going to Space Camp?

Thanks for all the info Pete! I appreciate the detail and am looking forward to an airline "meal" (somewhat) on the ATL-SLC since its around dinner time.

Bah, Kinda odd they charge for movies.. jeeeeez...  Big grin

Nope, going to Aviation Challenge (somewhat more interesting than Space Camp IMO).

regards and thanks again,
