Bwia A340's

Tue Jun 25, 2002 5:01 am

I read here that BWIA have started using an A340 into LHR. I am contemplating a trip to Antigua next year and the tour op says it'll be a Tristar, but my family are nervous about travelling on an old girl like that and I'm not too thrilled about the prospect either. Does anyone know how many A340's they are getting and what my chances of flying on one are?
Otherwise I'll be paying more and going BA or Virgin.

Hi Lambourne,

If you're flying next year, you will be flying BWIA's "new" (ex-Air Canada) A340-300s. They will operate 2 A340-300s which will replace their Lockheed L-1011-500 fleet. The first A340-300 already has been delivered to BWIA which already operated the first A340-300 flight today (24th of june) with the second A340-300 arriving in november if memory serves me right. I'm also thinking of flying with BWIA to the caribbean somewhere in march next year.

Lambourne used the word `Tour Operator'.
There is still talk of BW keeping a Tristar as a dedicated `charter' plane.
I believe it will be the one currently being refurbished.
If someone knows better, please speak up.

There are old pilots and there are bold pilots, but there are no old bold pilots

BWIA plans to inaugurate POS-BGI-MAN service next month that will be the L1011 but the A340s are on the London route...The Tristars were incredible workhorses and it would be a shame to dump them in some cruel, heartless airplane graveyard somewhere in at least one will be in service which is still something I can look forward to I guess!
