747's At DFW No More.

Well not a single passenger 747 serves DFW anymore. Japan Ailrines once had 747 as did Luftansa and Korean just stopped. Japan now has MD-11, Luftansa A340, Korean 777, Air France A340. The only 747 service now are cargo, like Atlas and I think maybe China Cargo. Whats going on here?!

It appears to me that airlines are replacing their 747 service to DFW with other aircraft. I'm curious to see if someone interprets the situation different?

I wouldn't worry too much about it. No '747s at DFW' is just going thru a dry spell at the moment. DFW is too big of an airport not to have 747 services. They'll be back in due time.  Wink/being sarcastic Regards.

With the exception of Korean Air, I haven't seen a passenger 747 @ DFW in ages. The last one I saw (excluding Korean Air) was a BA 747-400 that I guess was substituting for the normal 777.

Saxman66, incase you didn't hear, both Air France and JAL pulled of Dallas/Ft. Worth this past winter.

I agree, it is pretty sad. DFW gets everything BUT the 747. I am not that mad though as I would rather see the smaller aircraft full than bigger aircraft empty. Plus, I like the KAL777s  Smile. Qantas is expected to come and the only way the route can be flown is with a 747.

Hardly and DC-10's except for Omni that are passenger, and maybe an ATA L1011 in the summer, non of the original Big 3 serve Dfw in great numbers.

Thai also flew 747's into DFW. Yes, I know, Thai pulled out of DFW years ago, I remember that back in the late 80's Thai flew 747-300's into DFW because the 400 wasn't in service with the airline yet. Thai used to be in terminal 2W in DFW, which is now terminal B.
Lufthansa, I remember. They also flew 747's into DFW at that time, 200 series. I think it's the only European airline that ever flew the 747 to DFW

And don't forget American! Don't you remember that they used to fly 747SP's to Tokyo at that time? I remember very well that they did, my father used to fly on it a lot.

The reason why DFW (and ATL) see the fallling presence of the 747 is because they are the most efficiently run hubs in the world.

The 747 is already now like the A380 will be: US carriers may use them if they have big Pacific routes, and European carriers use them because of slot restrictions and because they have a different, less developed hubbing system in place. Without the large Pacific operations of UA and NW, the 747 would have no home at any US carrier, despite the fact that they are in some limited use on Atlantic and even domestic routes for these carriers. Passenger traffic at DFW and ATL will continue to grow, but the 747 will now and forever only play a limited role, if any - this is the sign of a well run hub and the way of the future.

It's also a sign of the decline of the importance of the hub. More point-to-point = fewer huge planes and more 767s & 777s.

KAL cargo still goes to DFW i belive.. im sure we will see more soon enough....

One has to be living in fantasy-land to believe that QF will ever fly into DFW when they already have a codeshare with AA from LAX.

And for those who're thinking of possible direct SYD-DFW flights, I'll offer you a good deal on the Brooklyn Bridge  Smile

Boeing747_600- Last time I checked, Qantas did not order the 744 ER because they "looked cool". Rumors of Qantas flying this route has been around for awhile. Also, Qantas would get more of AA through DFW than LAX as AA is probably 2-3 times as big at DFW than they are at LAX.

Boeing747_600, actually Qantas announced the SYD-AKL-DFW route some time ago, using the 744ER...

"Mr Dixon also announced that Qantas had decided to enter into a 10-year strategic alliance with American Airlines, the world's largest airline. Details of the agreement will be finalised in the next few weeks and will involve:

- Qantas using American Airlines specifications as standard for the replacement of the Qantas single aisle fleet (for example Boeing 737s), creating opportunities for short-term leasing between the airlines to cater for peaks and troughs in demand;
- Joint purchasing;
- Qantas progressively relocating to the American Airlines terminal at Los Angeles airport;
- Qantas commencing Auckland-Dallas-Auckland non-stop services when the new, long range Boeing 747-400 is delivered in late 2002. Dallas is a major worldwide hub for American Airlines, particularly to all major North American and South American cities;
- Expansion of the codeshare agreement between the two carriers;
- Expansion of the Frequent Flyer agreement."

Before JAL pull out DFW, they downgrade from 744 to M11.

Only Cargo carriers now use 747 to DFW.

Jiml1126- JAL did downgrade to an MD-11(which was neat as DFW was the only United States/Canadian(?) airport to see the JAL MD-11s), but at the same time, they made the frequency daily. I believe the 747 service was 4x weekly while the MD-11 service was 7x weekly(daily).

Just today I saw 2 747-400F, one from EVA Cargo, and one SIA Cargo. Pretty cool. I have never seen them at DFW. I have seen EVA MD-11F, but never seen SIA!
