747 Reverser Deployment

Wed Jun 26, 2002 6:27 pm

Look at the following two pictures. Both taken on same day at same location.Looks like No3 reverser has begun to deploy.

One is a landing shot, the other take off.

I understood 747 reversers only deployed once the truck tilt sensor indicated runway contact..

Also both pictures seem to show one of the wing gears missing.

It is also impossible to lock out a reverser in a partial deployed position.

Any comments

Perhaps it is just a band around the cowling of a different colour.

...the only way you could deploy the reverser in the air is if the air/ground sensing was such that the aircraft believed it was on the ground.....or if the thrust reverser interlocks failed. Is that correct?
