Korean Air At Nashville?

Fri Jun 28, 2002 1:30 pm

I just discovered that there is a Korean Air flight out of Nashville (BNA) headed for Anchorage that departed about 10:30am today.

According to the Flight Tracker, the flight # is 9034 using a 747-400!! Is this a code-share flight with another airline? Why would Korean fly to Nashville, Tennessee? Is it scheduled cargo?

I did not know any 747s use BNA, although they do have an 11,000ft runway.

I looked on Korean's website and they do not list any service to Nashville. Does anyone have any info about what this flight is doing in Nashville?

It's a charter flight.

China Airlines Cargo offers scheduled 747 cargo flights to Nashville.

Do you happen to know days and/or times when the Atlas/China Cargo jet would be in Nashville? either arrive or depart?

I wonder what is Nashville that would warrant that kind of cargo lift. Does anyone know? Are there a lot of distribution centers in the area or something?

I can answer your questions.

Its because of this company = DELL COMPUTERS.

China Airlines Cargo have daily service from Nashville to Taiwan except Tuesdays. Flight number is CI201.

Thanks Hkgspotter1. That makes sense. I know FedEx flies a DC10 into Austin, TX near the Dell HQ. Nashville is a small city. I was surprised to hear that that they had a 747F flown in by anyone.

Offtopic....

FedEx used to have as many as 3 DC-10/MD-11 per day in Austin during the dot com boom as there were MANY startups here. Most startups per capita of any city in the US. (although other cities had more by sheer numbers).

Nowadays, there is a nightly DC-10 flight out and then another (same one?) that arrives at about 2 or 3 PM, it flies right over my work when it's coming in.

To Hkgspotter1, I'm curious what the connection is between Dell and Nashville. Is Dell based there? I can see the Taipei part, as many computers/parts are built there, but why bring them to Nashville? Just wondering....

Bruce,

Dell has a large manufacturing plant in Lebanon, TN, which is about 20 miles from BNA(Nashville arpt) It was opened back in mid-'99. They assemble desktop and workstation computers there. Also, they have a tech-support call center there as well. If memory serves me correct, Dell also announced plans to build their logistics center there as well. The center will be responsible for the Eastern US side of Dell's business. It seem like they have big plans for Nashville area.

I suspect the cargo planes are bringing computers parts from Dell's OEM supplier in Taiwan and other parts of Asia to their Tennessee plant, where the computers are put together.

Aaahhh that makes sense! Now for a couple more questions....

This flight is listed as making stops in Chicago and Anchorage. Why ANC? I think a 747-400 could go non-stop from ORD to China....or, do heavy cargo 747s have less range than a passenger 747? I wonder if ANC is a fuel stop.

How much of a runway does a 747 cargo need?
