Fairchild Dornier Down Sizing

Sat Jun 29, 2002 1:06 am

Ok we just got out of a meeting and we were informed Monday July 1st, 2000 employees will be laid off, bring the remaining OP employees to around 1000. Seven potential investors are interested in the 328, 4 are interested in customer support only and three which to continue production with support services.

Only two investors are in a financial situation to make an immediate acquisition of FD. The Nestle/Dornier family and EADS.

It looks like at this time EADS/ATR are the potential investors for the 328 program and Alenia for the 728 program. This is the most current info on the situation at FD.

At this time Alenia finished with the due diligence program and we are in deep discussions with EADS/ATR.

Interesting to note: why are Alenia and ATR/EADS not jointly working on this? German press reports that FD will give more info on Monday.

I imagine they are.
I can't see ATR/EADS picking up the 328 and not the 728.
The 728 under 'just' Alenia does not make sense--marketing or financial.
Not that any of it would...

P.s. Maybe FD should regret changing from side controllers to a yoke! It would still make a great 'baby-bus'.

Funny since we make the rear empennage for the Airbus A32X series, the 728/928 empennage is identical to the airbus in everyway, right down to the same bushings, bearings and fittings. The area is smaller but exactly the same design.
