UA Flight 43...ORD-HNL

Mon Jul 01, 2002 12:11 am

As I'm sure many of you may know, UA no longer offers flight 43/44 (non-stop ORD-HNL/HNL-ORD). I believe this segment was discontinued for several reasons, one being that UA retired many of their DC-10-30's. I heard once that one of the reasons they got rid of 43/44 was something about not wanting to put a relief captain on a domestic run...is their any validity to this?? Does anyone know if UA is planning on starting this service up again? If so, is their an aircraft that they would use for this route. I would appreciate any information if possible.

Thanks

I can't help you with your questions about United. However, I can tell you AA still flies that route as flights 73/72 with 767-300's. I flew with them earlier this month on flights 73 and 72. It's nice to get to HNL without having to stop in CA.

yes you are right UA didnt want a relief pilot on the run so they axed until they can work it out..Delta also axed their ATL-HNL for the same reason

Most of the ORD-HNL traffic was low yield, mainly bulk fares via Apple Vacations, Mark Travel, and Pleasant Hawaiian Vacations.

Well, I thought Delta axed the ATL-HNL because of other things as well, with the 764 replacing the L10... I dunno, now I think you can go direct, and make a stop in SLC, no?

It was axed because of the pilot's union rules on 2 person flights on domestic routes. Because the -10 has 3 flight crew it was exempt . UA retired all thier DC-10's with UA44 HNL-ORD with N1857U DC-10-30CF. Second last was UA700 LAS-ORD with N1856U a -30CF also .
