Sunjet From SWF

Mon Jul 01, 2002 11:30 am

Hi,
I'm hoping someone can help me out here. My girlfriend said years back she flew "the smallest plane I've ever seen" out of Stewart Intl, in Newburgh, NY. Her parents said the same, and all three of them say it was called Sunjet. They claim its the size of the Saab 340, but I tried to explain to them it couldn't be that small and still go to Florida. Could someone shed the light on this topic? I searched this site pictures of Sunjet and only returned an MD80. Any info is appreciated. Thanks,
Jeff

Thanks for the quick response! Was it a "baby nine" by any chance? Thanks,
Jeff

Sunjet Int'l's fleet never included the baby -9. The company flew the DC9-30, DC9-50 and MD-81.
My definition of cool ? Not trying so hard to be cool.

I flew sunjet's DC9-30's......

Maybe calling it a SAAB is something generic to calling a plane small in their world.

Thanks for all the comments. I figured they were exaggerating how small it was. I was showing them pictures I have in a airliner book and they pointed to the Saab, it's not like they knew Saab made airplanes.

Perhaps it was a different airline to Florida. Can anyone help? The time was 1995, and they said it was an aircraft with 2-2 seating. Any help? Thanks,
Jeff

I think their reccollections of 1995 are a little off.....

sunJet leased from airlines...but none had a 2-2 config.

As far as I can remember, sunJet leased from:

Trans Meridian (A320)
Sun Pacific (727)
Winair (737)

And I think Vanguard, too, but not sure on that one!

WAIT!

They must have been on one of sunJet's own planes, because sunJet's configuration was 2-2 instead of 2-3.....

It was their attempt at Midwest Express-ness

Hope that helps!
