Who Will Fly On Sept. 11?

Tue Jul 02, 2002 5:51 pm

Airlines are watching bookings carefully to see ..

Patricia Friend, president of the International Association of Flight Attendants, anticipates that a large number of flight attendants won't be punching in that day.

Would you take a flight on 9-11 ? and on 4th July ?

I´m flying on Sept. 11. Although semi-voluntarily, only day that cheap fares were still available for... *shiver*

My travel plans are not scheduled under influence of emotions. So yes, I´ll be flying on Sept 11 if I need to do so. There are so many different dates which mean something special to people around the world and if you were to work that into your schedules it would be impossible to get around.

It would be a perfect day for United Airlines to return the number 93 to that flight, in honor of the people who sacrificed themselves for the good of their country.

I'll be in school that day, but otherwise I would have no problems flying that day.

You bet, I usually work Tuesday-Thursday, since the 11th is a Wednesday this year, I'll be up there. It will be a sad day since I knew or knew of most of the crew on 11, on the other hand I don't have any trepiditions about flying on that day.

I don't have any current plans, but I certainly wouldn't have any qualms about doing so. I think it might just be one of the safest days to travel!

I am planning on booking a flight to LAS on Sep. 11. I'm not worried at all.

In addition, I'm suppose to fly out to LAX tomorrow (July 4) but change of plans will force me to stay home istead.  Sad

I think July 4 and September 11 are two days people SHOULDN'T be worried... It's all the other days, when people aren't expecting things to happen...

What made the Sept. 11 attacks so frightening, along with the scale of destruction, was the fact that the 11th was just an ordinary day, like any other... These terrorists thrive on keeping people scared and off balance, so if/when they strike again, look for it to happen on a date with no attached meaning...

Just IMO. Let's all hope it never happens again.

I am flying to my townhouse in Virginia Beach with my bestfriend on July 4th. I am not worried at all (except that I am flying Northwest  Big grin), but he is a nervous wreck about flying. I just have to remind myself that he is a once every couple of years flyer.....

Chazzerguy has a good point. Airlines and authorities will be especially vigilant on the 4th and the 11th. It'd be stupid to do anything when security is up. Plus, these people don't have "hidden meanings" to their attacks. 9-11 was just a date, it wasn't based on a friggen phone number. Anyone who believes it was is just ignorant. They'll hit us (God forbid) when we least expect it on a completely random day and time- and who's to say it'll be from the sky?

What was most frightening on sept.11th was the fact that it hadn't been done before, and nobody was prepared nor was there any sort of procedure. Also it was surprising how easy it was, for them to do it.

If I can get a cheap one day return flight, I'll do it!

Why wouldn't you fly on that day? Ill fly any airline any day any place. Do you not sail on December 7th? (Pearl Harbor). Do you not fly on days airplanes just crashed for other reasons? No. Flying is what we need.

I certainly would. I am not planning on doing so because my family has no trips for the middle of September because there is school, but I wouldn't let it stop me from flying. For one, I don't think terrorists would try to do an "anniversary attack." There are several reasons for this I think. Frankly, a plane probably couldn't get hijacked anymore. There would be a lot of resistance from the passengers and crew. That is the biggest reason. The terrorists probably know what they would be going up against, so wouldn't think to try it. Some people might think that terrorists would like to hijack a plane again just to show that our security isn't that good (it's not) and that they can do it again, but what I said is MY opinion and nothing more than an opinion. You can have yours and I can have mine, but this is based upon my opinion. Back to the point. That first reason is enough to deter the terrorists I think, but there are more if that is not enough. On 9/11, I bet the security might be a little more watchful and sharp because of a fear of another attack, and because less people will be flying, they will have more time to do this. That might catch any would-be attacks. Those reasons all come down to the fact that I'm not afraid of a terrorist attack happening in the first place, (this is grim, I know) if one did, the chances of me being on that particular plane are slim, if I was on that plane, we would probably live because of the resistance getting control again, and if I actually did die, well then it was meant to happen.

Living near ISP, I actually considered taking a quick day trip on September 11th just as an act of defiance. WN to PVD would cost about $70 excluding fees, BWI would be about twenty dollars more. Unfortunately, I have some things scheduled for work that day which can't be easily avoided.
My family and I are flying JFK-PHX on HP on August 11th, the 11-month anniversary.

Actually, some fellow employees and myself are planning on taking 4 flights on that day, and returning home late at night. We are doing it merely to support air travel and the fact that it is safe and fun. I'm looking forward to it very much.

I would have no problems flying on 9/11. Thoughts of the events that took place on that day last year will go through my mind, and I'll probably feel a little anxious throughout the flight, especially if it was a domestic flight in the US, but if I had a reason to fly, yes I would regardless & wouldn't re-schedule it to a later or earlier date.

If the reports are true in Britain, that security at US Airports is as bad as it was before September 11th, I wouldnt feel completly comfortable flying in or out of America.
Anywhere else in the world, sure I'd fly.

Unfortunately, it's true. Security in the U.S. is STILL a joke.

BUT......Many airlines are reducing prices for 9/11, so why not?

My ticket is in my briefcase. I'm taking the day off from work just to fly up to Las Vegas for the day. I haven't been there since 1989 so I thought this would be a good day to see the new terminal. I hope it's the busiest travel day since the attack. Just to show those bastards that a free society will not cower before their ridiculous antics.

I fully expect some strange looks from the airport gestapo when they see that I'm spending about 3 hours in LAS. Should be fun.
