Help With This Airline/Airplane

Thu Jul 04, 2002 1:19 pm

Ok here is the situation as best as I can remember it as it happened about 4 hours ago.

It was between 6:45pm and 8pm on July 3, 2002 when this loud plane flew over my house about 50 miles North of ORD! The plane had 2 engines and the fuselage was white. The left winglet was red. I think the right one was red. The tail as I remember was black and red with green. The plane flew over my house and banked sharply to the right and headed east then I lost it. My guess would be a South African A330 or something like that. Thanks for the help and have fun! Im not even sure if South African flies A330's. Some more info for you guys:

it can be compared to the size of a 767 and 777. It was about that size.

Those are the only two airlines I could guess with your description. Do you think it could have been one of them?

I know it was NOT the SriLankan Airlines (Air Lanka) but it could have been the Emirates. I just didnt see the words on the plane but then again it was probably at 6,000 feet or so. Thanks! Any more guesses?

Unfortunately, neither of those airlines mentioned flies to ORD. And SAA does not fly A330s. The only aircraft the have with wingtips are the 744s, 738s and the CRJs. I don't think the serve ORD, do they?

Hello.

I am not sure, but could it be Air Canada A330?

Best regards,

No it wasnt Air Canada. It lookes to me like a mix between an Emirates and a South African color scheme. Hmmm maybe we will never know!

BMI British Midland A330?

Twin engined, red winglets, white (underbelly). Tail fin colours don't match, but if there's any room for light and colour uncertainty...?

An Emirates' B777-300 was recently delivered from Boeing but the B777-300 doesn't have winglets.

It wasn't Ethiopian either. The plane had winglets. I'll just say it was Emirates cause i think it was!

As mentioned earlier, unless it was an Emirates 777 on delivery, they dont fly to the US.

What about an A300-600 or A310

I know Emirates have sold a few of these and possible this was going somewere for conversion or new operator, both have winglets

Well I know for a fact that it had 2 engines. It had winglets like the 747's do and unlike the A319, 320 and 321's.

It wasn't an A340 as it had 2 engines.

It looked like an Emirates or a South African but it was certainly not a 747 or an a340. Sorry to make this so hard. I can't supply more info cause I forgot what it looked like now as in color except that it was white body with a green, red and black tail with a red winglet.
