I believe Air Canada is launch for A340-500
and Virgin for A340-600

Because the A340-500 for SQ is not in production yet. And there are rumours saying SIA is dumping A340-500 and getting 747-400XQLR instead.

Both aircraft have the same range, but 744XQLR is more spacious.

Air Canada is the launch customer and will operate the aircraft in Q4 2002 / Q1 2003.

SIA is making/ has made a decision on the A345 and 747XQLR this month.

I would prefer the 747XQLR because of better economics.

HOWEVER, my memory is hazy of this as I rushed it, but Flight International said the XQLR project is being delayed. In that case, A345 will win. Shame IMO.
Anyone can fly, only the best Soar.

SIA has already ordered the 345. Does anyone know the exact ranges of the respective planes (345, 747QWERTY)? I can't find that on Boeing's new website.

The -400XQLR has 7980 nm range, the 345 has 8500 nm range. According to their respective websites anyways.
Firings, if well done, are good for employee morale.

SIA will decide on the 345 pretty shortly.

If SQ does go with the new 747, I don't think Airbus will push them to hard on any cancellation penalties. SQ carries a big stick. I think the 747 would be preferable to 345 in terms of spaciousness, economics, and so on.
