Northwest was actually formed on 01-September/1926, but today marks 75 years of passenger service.

From NWA.com:

1927

July 5: St. Paul businessman Byron Webster becomes Northwest's first ticketed passenger, paying $40 for a 12 1/2-hour, one-way flight from the Twin Cities to Chicago via La Crosse, Madison, and Milwaukee, Wis. Charlie "Speed" Holman, Northwest's first pilot, is at the controls.

Northwest adds the Laird biplane to its fleet for mail service.

In 1927, Northwest carries a total of 106 passengers - about one-fourth the capacity of a single Boeing 747 from today's fleet.

I wonder what those $40 would be in today's currency (so corrected for inflation), and how that would compare to the current price of the same route which is $161 for a return trip lasting 1hr 12 min each way  Big thumbs up

What a good B-Day for NWA..by NOT raising fares like the other airlines...that is so funny to see on the news that all of the other majors have tried to raise there fares by $20 each leg..and NWA refuses...

I have to admit, I like Northwest, but Why Doesnt Richard H. Anderson do something to get back all the employees with the money that the government gave NWA instead of giving himself a multi-milion dollar raise!!  Pissed

Northwest has seen better leaders...

I think Anderson is the best leader. He rescued Northwest from where Dasburg took it.

Anderson has done a GREAT job with NWA....look at all the positives he has done...he has turned NWA into a great airline and he is a very nice guy when you talk to him one on one...he has done alot here at NWA...example..he gave all the employees 2 round trip confirmed passes to the continental US, Dasburg NEVER did that...NWA's future looks very bright and NWA will be around for years to come...
