SFO/OAK-BRU: Clue Me In!

Mon Jul 08, 2002 2:10 pm

Hello Bay Area enthusiasts and all that are learned in SFO/OAK history...

I know that in recent years CityBird operated a OAK-BRU route. Can anyone confirm if any other scheduled carrier ran the route as well? I believe I read somewhere that People Express did with 747s in the mid 80s (briefly) and I'm hoping someone can confirm.

As always, when I need the right answer, right away - I turn to the folks that know best!!!

Thanks in advance!!!

> Hello Bay Area enthusiasts

Euh... greetings from the shores of the North Sea.  Wink/being sarcastic

I was fortunate to see PE at BRU during the mid eighties. During some time PE had 6 flights a week to EWR and 1 weekly flight on Wednesday to San Francisco (apparently OAK). All flights were operated with their beautiful B747.

A.net member Alain Mengus just happened to write a nice article about the history of PeoplExpress.

You can find it at http://airtransportbiz.free.fr/Airlines/PEOPLExpress.html

"That same year, however, a new European route to Brussels (BRU) was launched in fall of 1985, with a US$99 introductory fare and US$450 for first class. Another flight to BRU was later launched from Oakland."

Kind regards,

If I remember well, PE started to fly into OAK but later on they flew into SFO

$99 for a flight from BRU to the Bay Area (or vice versa)? Whoow...

Interesting topic by the way. Back in 1998, I flew Citybird BRU-LAX (763) and flew back two weeks later OAK-BRU (also a Citybird 763).

Cannot wait to go back to California!
