I think USAirways would be happy with whatever they can get. Like it or now, they are in a real bad position. SW and AirTran are all over the east coast(both having benefited from past USAirways blunders ie Southwest in Islip when US pulled mainline and AirTran in BWI after MetroJet bit the dust). They are a big airline and i doubt the government would let them fold but this leaves USAirways the burden of finding someone to merge with, a humongous downsizing or selling the airline off in pieces (hub by hub or such). If USAirways did dissapear, you will see United moving in on either CLT or PHL, they don't want both. Either would suit them. PHL has lots of NE Midatlantic feed plus a good transatlantic gateway and Charlotte provides a suitable location to compete with Delta. PIT is the lone ranger, either Southwest surprises the industry and moves in(which i dount because of HIGH landing fees and taxes) or AirTran once again returns when USAirways bites the dust, but i doubt anything will happen before USAirways goes with either of those two airlines. I dont see any major wanting the PIttsburgh hub. Its too close to ORD/CLE/DTW/CVG. Oh well. I wish them the best of luck, they've had a hard set of years under Wolfe and they truly are a great airline. I hope they make it but this is the airline industry and money will be the final judge of their fate.
Why would God make us all so different, if He wanted us to be the same?
