How Is BA 777 Service To Sfo?

Fri Jul 12, 2002 7:48 am

Hi!

I'm booked to fly from LHR to SFO on the next 16th. December, it will be BA285 operating now with the 777. This will be my first time in this great "beast", last summer I tried to book my flight to YYZ with BA 777 but every seat was taken so I had to postpone that. Now it's confirmed and I wonder if any of our good friends here have any information about this particular flight and the particular aircraft. I think the flight to SFO just pass further north than the normal ones to the east coast. Can I expect to see Iceland or Greenland high from the sky? That's something I'm really curious about. Oh, just to end I ( and the rest of the family ) will be flying in World Traveller - cheap way of course!!!
regards and I wait your feedback!

Flew LHR-SFO last Oct in a 747
You will pass over the southern tip of greenland (best view rhside) and hudson bay either side
salt lake lh side
landing at sfo best view is rhside (i had left)
I am a bit gutted that it is going to 777 the bus class in 747 is excellent (it was the new seatrs( however the 777 was the old style)

Thanks Silverfox for your answer.
That's what I imagined, we'll fly a much more northern pattern that the normal flight to cities like NYC, BOS or YYZ. When I flew to YYZ last summer the land we saw was the Grey Islands just outside Newfoundland, now it will take us up north, that will be cool. I'm also pleased that I booked already the seats for that flight, we'll get seats 31 and 32JK both, right side!

Seat pitch on BA 777's could be a bit tight, 31 or 32 inch, although i'm not sure if BA has increased the pitch in World traveller or not, but there'll be PTV's though. Great service should compliment all this as usual.

You should check to make sure your rows 31 & 32 aren't over the wing, which would ruin an otherwise great view. I've taken several BA 777s on the Boston-Heathrow route, including G-VIIG (twice), G-YMMC, and G-VIIU...got to sit in the cockpit enroute on all flights. Alas, that was years 1997-2000. It's a different landscape now, though. My first flight aboard G-VIIG was on the morning Boston-London flight, in late November 1997. The plane was a third-full, and I could have played football in the whole back section and not bother anyone. I staked my claim in the very last row of the plane, which afforded excellent views. I managed the same thing on a Singapore 777 from Amsterdam-Chicago last October, 9V-SVC (then their newest 777). Given that your flight is so far in advance, you should try for seats way in the back so you'll be sure of unobstructed views.

The 777 seating in WT only goes to 38 so your almost at the back anyway and not overwing. All 777s have PTV and this aircraft may be one of the many now that has WT+ and of course the new flat beds in Club. Keep me posted as there is a chance that any BA crew on here that are LHR based could be operating that flight. ENJOY!

Actually to correct myself before posting this it will have the new flat beds as SFO is one of the many cities that BA advertises its new flat bed service. That means it will also have WT+. Check the prices it may be worth it?
