NWA A-330

Fri Jul 12, 2002 9:04 am

The first part of the fuselage for the first NWA A-330 is together in Hamburg Germany...the a/c# will be 3301...it is not due to be delivered until July 2003, but it is the first "enhanced" A-330-300 and it will be getting lots of testing before delivery...and on another note the first 757-300 will be in service in 2 weeks...SEA-DTW-SEA...

What exactly does "enhanced" mean? What are they adding/changing?

sorry if this has already been discussed, i'm too tired to go looking it up and i'm already right here.

It might be the first one to come off the line with the new A340-500/600 CRT screens. QF is receiving its first A330-200 with the new CRT screens at the end of the year.

A340-500/600 has LCD screens not CRT

I'm surprised that Airbus would designate it as "enhanced" if the only change is the LCD screen. Will there be any change in performance. The 330-300X was the most recent change to the A333. They just added extra fuel capacity and a greater MTOW for greater range.

As far as the enhanced part I am pretty sure it was what 762er said..for better range and more fuel capacity...

"Enhanced" means that the A330/340 will receive additional improvement from the A340-500/600:

- new cabin interior
- new systems (like LCD screens)...

(and a new version of the CFM56-5C engine for the A340)

There is not a big gap between both versions it's only a little improvement.

Question:

Is NWA getting the A330-200 or A330-300 ??

How many seats will the NWA aircraft have ??

And does any NWA staff know the rumours on the first transatlantic routes??

I heard with this new A330, NWA was getting a new color scheme, possibly.

Any news on that?

NW will be getting the A330-300, it will be configured with a World Business Class and Economy Cabin (ie, no First Class) and the first European route will be DTW-AMS, if current rumors are correct. However, NW is not yet ETOPS, and the A330s will be flown domestically for the first few months while NW gains the necessary experience with the aircraft; as for the domestic routes, look for anything that is now or in the past been flown by the DC10s, such as DTW-LAX, MSP-LAX, DTW-MEM and the like.

How many A330-300s are NW receiving & over what time period? When do they fully expect to phase out all the DC-10s?

Thanks

I believe that the NW A333 order is for 24 aircraft, which should be enough to cover their transatlantic DC10-30 operations (Domestic DC10-40s are being replaced with 753s)......we may see some adjustment in the flights operated by KL and the flights operated by NW as part of their transatlantic partnership during certain periods, but it seems that NW is covered.

NW, as of yet, has not ordered aircraft to replace the DC10s on its Hawaii operations (MSP, DTW, SEA, LAX to HNL)......what is likely is that the newest of the DC10-30s (some are not that old, even though acquired 2nd hand, some of the DC10s are less than 15 years old at the moment) will operate the Hawaii routes for a few more years until the time is right for NW to order additional A333s, or another type, for the mainland-Hawaii services.

Wow. I thought NW was getting 330-200's. Great to hear they are getting the 300's.

CX's older A330-300's carry 47J/267Y - total 311 passengers so the NW 333's should carry a similar amount. More pax than their DC-10's.

I cannot wait for the NW A330 -

NW have very competitive fares to Toronto from London but I hate travelling in their antiquated DC10s

The NW 330-300 will have 304 seats. Although a few on this board have mentioned NW getting a new color scheme, it has never been announced by Northwest. The new 757-300's are arriving with the present paint scheme.

I would think MCO will be getting the 753?? We used to have 2 DC-10's a day, but they are 757's now.

The new color scheme rumor is coming from the higher ups, though nothing is set in stone. If a new color scheme is to be introduced it would be on the 330. NW is currently working with a brand consulting company out of NYC for WBC product upgrade, that is all that's known.
