nice website, but I'm not sure who's behind it. Very poor planning... TPA is NOT a high yield destination, so this airline will last about as long as UltrAir.

few comments:

I doubt this is done by a professional group of individuals. From their reading, they put too much out there, almost like they're trying to seduce people to invest in them. They tend to belittle other airlines, and that's something you shouldn't do... more focused on the little stuff versus the big picture.

They mention DET // Detroit City Airport // to be serviced w/ CRJs. That's a tough one, as they can't land or take off there.. the runways aren't long enough.. you need at least 6,000 feet SAFELY for a CRJ unless that puppy has bigger flaps or some slats on it. WN pulled out of DET because of the runways...

anyway, if i wanted to form my own airline, Crystal Airway's site is what I'd definately copy.

bTW, if they secured $2.25 bil in financing, why haven't they filed w/ the DOT for FAA certification?!?! Fitness for 121 takes a good year.....

All I can really say about that airline is WOW, of course it would be great if they did come out and offered those fares. But who knows, money talks and so does time.

Also, starting off with multiple aircraft types is a pretty bad move...

Attention all:

Crystal Airways is a HOAX! This is not a real airline, nor will it ever be.

Some bored poor sole decided to create a fake airline on a website and fool people like us ... Pay no attention to Crystal Airways; its as real as Santa Claws.

Capt.Fantastic why do you think it's a hoax?

For me it seems that they planned a new airline but postponed the whole project because of 9-11.

Yet ASA is going to be flying CRJ-700s into Key West with their 4800 ft. runway. I don't think City Airport is going to be much of a problem...except for the random bullet holes that will appear in the planes.  Smile

In the wake of 9/11, many of these 'paper airlines' backed off on their plans. And with the economy still in a slump, banks and Venture Capitalists are a little leery of investing in a start up airline. Some of these airline proposals may finally see the light of day once everything improves in the economy. As for ASA, I assume that flights to EYW are going to be from ATL? It couldn't be from MCO since Comair is pulling out to be replaced by Chautauqua as the primary Delta Connection operator in the Florida market. Eastern used to fly into EYW with DC-9s and 727s, so I think a CRJ-700 could do it.

How do they demonstrate 121 fitness if they have never operated before? Could someone explain the process to me.

thanks

That's gotta be a fake airline. You don't fly business oriented flights between Tampa and Oklahoma City before you fly Tampa-Kansas City. That's bogus.

Ok, what about USA3000? I read a few reports from folks that flew on them with Apple Vacations, and they are very well liked... They have a whole bunch of new winter destinations coming this year... They seem to have the right idea, going with one ac type.. The A320 seems to be working well for airlines like this.

As for DET and the short runway... Pro Air flew out of DET with 737's after SWA left. They were also planning on flying MD80's out of there when they started back up.

As for the CRJ needing more runway, lol... Its all on paper.

ASA may want to use CRJ-700s into Key west, but the plane also has slats and larger flaps.. aka -- lift devices. The CRJ -200 *does NOT*. It's a TOY JET. I've flown in them many times, and know pilots... they said that a 5200 foot runway is pushing the envelope at MTOW, which alot of CRJs tend to operate at.

If you are working on a start up airline, you don't put your fares up on a website or list everything you are going to do... you put up enough to spur interest. I'm shocked they don't have a "reservations" button.

The site IS designed very well, and at one point, Crystal maybe was a good idea, but it has one big issue: bad hub, bad timing.

The ASA flights are from ATL yes.

You obviously know nothing about Oklahoma City's economy. Besides being the home of companies like Six Flags, Inc., Kerr-McGee, numerous oil and gas companies and not to mention numerous government agencies you have a very rapidly growing business center, especially when it comes to communications and bio-tech. OKC would probably be considered before MCI simply due to the fact of less compeition when it comes to air travel.

Crystal Airways is not a hoax. I have spoken to it's president Tim Rivers on the phone personally. Crystal has been in the planning stages for a few years now. Will they ever get off the ground? I sure hope so, but I doubt it.

TPA

Wed Jul 17, 2002 5:45 am

Having been at TPA pretty much my whole life, I really dont think this is gonna happen. Just look at the fact that TPA has no room for a hub operation like this. They could rebuild airside B, but thats YEARS down the road. All the other airsides are full. And with the established airlines wanting more room, I doubt TPA is gonna tell them no for this wannabe airline.

If this is real, I dont see it happening.

Cardinal Airlines

Wed Jul 17, 2002 6:49 am

Cardinal airlines was another one to be based out of MLB. Supposed to use MD80's, their website isn't much now (www.CardinalAirlines.com).

On the contrary, TPA has plenty of room. Once Airside E opens, Airside C and half of Airside D will be empty, in addition to the "unused" gates currently in possesion by US in Airside F. The only airline looking to expand facilites at the moment is WN.

In my opinion, TPA can be treated as a gateway hub like AA's MIA rather than the "main base" that Crystal Airways is proposing.

WN, CO, and FL all want more room. US is using all of their gates. The point is I highly doubt TPA is gonna give/have the room needed for a hub to a paper airline when their tenents need/deserve it.
