Landed Or Taking Off?

Thu Jul 18, 2002 1:36 pm

In this picture of the Lauda 777 at lovely Corfu, I see the flaps are nearly at full extention. Has this aircraft just landed, or is the pilot using full flap for heavy take-off on a somewhat short runway?

Must have just landed and about to back-taxi. No 777 pilot would take off with full flaps; way too much drag.

I'd say landed, I've never seen a 777 with flaps down for takeoff.

Had to have just landed, and is spinning around for back-taxi. I've never seen a 777 (or any similar plane for that matter) take-off with flaps extended that much.

Corfu airport doesn't have main taxiway like Chicago, Denver, etc.. The island has an airport with one runway do not have taxiway. The plane must makes 180 degrees turn around on the end of runway then go into small one taxiway to the ramp park. It's similar one of those Grand Cayman Island and Providenciales, Turks & Caicos Island.

PS~ Yes, 777 just landed and making turn 180 degress both pilots were busy to look out window difficult to turning on the width of runway. So, after turning the co-pilot was retracting the flaps up.

I think it is obvious that this plane spunout after landing. I saved this pic and zoomed way in....and you can practiclaly see the passengers screaming.

I'll find another frame from that series....there's one where it shows the plane balancing on its front gear alone! Also, when zoomed in, you can see the pilot mouthing to the copilot "See? Now you owe me 20 bucks!

It's just landed. The B777 takes off with flaps 5/15/20, not 30.
