Aerolinas Argentinas MD-80 At CDG

Sat Jul 20, 2002 6:42 am

A week ago on Friday July 12th, I have noticed an Aerolinas Argentinas MD-80 taking off at CDG. The time was around 19.30. Is it a scheduled flight ? I thought it was rather strange to see it there. Anyone can fill me in on details ?Could it perhaps be a feeder service similar to Iberia arrangement in Miami ? Any info is appreciated.

Aerolineas Argentinas has a hub in Madrid.
They have based some MD 80's there to fly to points in Europe, also Paris.

I believe they operate 3 weekly MAD-CDG and 3 weekly MAD-LGW and hope to expand the number of destinations.

Correct; see other, associated threads.

Plans for Frankfurt, Istanbul and Vienna are on the cards; October date has been set for these.

Service aboard is good, and fares are cheap. Recommended.

Being done to allow AR to earn desperately needed foreign cash, due to problems back at home; expenses in $$$, revenues mostly in local Argentine currency (Peso) which has lost value since its recent flotation aganinst the $$ to which it was previously pegged at parity.

Is it operated by an Aerolineas crew, or have they got some sort of an agreement with a European airline?

Its good to see them earning nedded foreign revenues abroad. A Miami, USA hub is also scheduled for August. Tradewinds is another Argentine competitior that will be making its debut into US skies shortly. They will be using 767 aircraft registered to another airline in order to avoid being classified as a Category 2 airline by the FAA (Similar to what happened to Aerolineas). Looks like to USA does not want to help Aerolineas out of its economic crisis.
