Malaysian MD11's?

Sat Jul 20, 2002 9:17 pm

Hi everyone, just wondering what were the main routes flown by the Malaysian MD11s?, and what's the situation with the three holer- being phased out, or freighter conversions as so many seem to be going down this route.

Any help appreciated, THANKS!!

The Malaysian MD11s were leased from World and stayed on the US register. They used to fly to HKG amongst other places and were only meant to be a tempoary boost to capacity.

Was used to fly on Aussie routes as well... was it N275WA? or maybe 275WA is the code of the cargo plane they leased from World which was also leased to Phillipines Airlines.

The Md-11's (which broke down A LOT) were mainly used on South African routes. I think they briefly operated into Perth as well as a few Asian routes.

Malaysia Airlines once held a share in World Airways - hence it had a close relationship with their MD11 fleet, which was temporarily employed (leased in) to cope with the surge in traffic it experienced in the 1990s.

The arrival of the A330 fleet left the MD11 being returned to World Airways.

Note that MAS also operated some MD11 freighters (again leased from World)(which were used to code-share with Virgin Atlantic on certain routes)
