China Aviation Development Foundation which owns 72% of China Airlines is prepared to sell between 20 and 30% of the airline by the end of 2002.
"We not only aim to bring down the stake to below 50 percent. If we are able to sell all of our shares, we will sell them all," transport minister Lin Lin-san said.
CADF will sell the stake to "strategic investors" including domestic or foreign companies with management abilities.
Premier of Taiwan Yu Shyi-kun has speeded up the privatisation of China Airlines since a crash on 25 May 2002.
