MIA Spotters?

Sun Jul 21, 2002 3:37 pm

I'm here in MIA with not a whole lot to do for a couple of days (better half is working a swimwear show before we head to MCO to see family) -- if anyone's around I'd love to meet!

Email me for contact info! I'll even spring for lunch!

Well, I was out and about this morning. Drove around but couldn 't find a good place to park and watch -- it's a shame there's no stopping along the perimeter road -- I could sit there all day and watch the airliners come in at perhaps 100' AGL.

Lots of variety especially for a west coaster... even a CI 744F was departing just as I went by.

If anyone knows where one *can* park and spot, please let me know. I'll probably go looking again tomorrow.

Park at Eldorado Fruniture at the end of the runway. Go mid-afternoon around 4'clock...LH 744, NW D10, AZ M11, BA 744, VS 744, AF 744, IB 743, SR M11...all in about 2 hours. Also visit the Airliners Store in the building next door...small but huge selection of airline models, books, magazines, and videos.

If you go along 25th Ave along side the 12-30Runway, you can still
park and watch the action there. Great takeoff shots for 9L as well
and landing action on both runways. The ground next to the fence
might still have some water but you can park under the trees across
the street and enjoy the sights. Have fun....

There's an excellent vantage point from the parking lot of the 94th Aero Squadron restaurant on Perimeter Rd (near 57th Ave I think). Many enthusiast use this location and I'm quite surprised that the restaurant management hasn't figured out a way to charge an entry fee for this prime spot. Not a bad place to eat lunch at either.Hope this helps.

DL: I saw the 94th aero squadron (heck, many moons ago I had a Bar Mitzvah reception at the one at VNY), but that runway didn't seem as busy, nor the vantage as spectacular as on Perimeter.

I will check out the bookshop tomorrow...
