Lauda A310 Makes Emergency Landing In Dublin

Sun Jul 21, 2002 9:25 pm

Latest Repost here:
A Lauda Air jet travelling from Canada to Italy made an emergency landing at Shannon Airport in southwestern Ireland on Sunday after a warning light in the cockpit led to the shutting down of an engine, an airport spokesman said.
"The full emergency plan was put into operation but the plane landed safely and all 169 passengers and crew have been disembarked," according to the spokesman for Aer Rianta, the Irish airports authority.
The Airbus 310 was enroute from Goose Bay in Canada to Bari in Italy.
"As we understand it the warning light came on about 25 minutes out from Shannon. The captain decided to shut down the engine, declare an emergency and divert here.
"The aircraft is being currently examined by engineers," the spokesman said.

I needed a good laugh first thing in the morning. Could it have been a 767?

Can't be lauda or can't be A310.

Lauda do not operate Airbus A310.

RJ100, perhaps it went into CORK instead... or maybe Belfast... even better... Belfast CITY Airport.!

Back to "seriousness"...

So what happened ?

Goose Bay to Bari??? What route would that be or if it is a charter who would charter it.
Is it by any chance Lauda Italy or is it the OS Lauda??

TV3 in Ireland is saying that the "Lauda jet" shut down an engine over the Irish Midlands.

It diverted to Shannon, presumably because Shannon Aerospace carry out Lauda maintenance, although Dublin was closer.

The aircraft is probably operating from the US west coast and would need a stop en route. LAX is 6537 nautical miles from Bari by the best great circle route and the 767-300's range is 6115 nautical miles.

Mandala499, what was wrong with my question? If I want to know where the plane landed I ask this question here as it is a forum and I don't think that I need your permission to ask this question.

RE: Lauda 767 Makes Emergency Landing In Dublin

The aircraft was a Lauda (Italy?) 767, flying from Goose Bay to Bari; not a common route for the airline and since Goose Bay is a big Nato/CAF base and the Italian AF/Navy probably has a major base in/around Bari, I wonder if the aircraft was carrying Italian or Canadian military personnel - possibly doing exercises in Canada.

Anyway, it's a pretty straightforward event and as one poster rightly pointed out, maintenance on Lauda 767s is done by Shannon Aerospace. A routine failure, well handled by a well trained crew.

It seems quite impossible it was a Lauda Air Italy B763, cause yesterday I went to MXP and I saw there two of the three Lauda Italy B763 and the third plane left MXP to carribean before I arrive at MXP terminal 2 in the late morning.

It may have been a military charter but doubt creeps in when you look at the number on board. The military tend to fill any charter they use.

I had hoped by now that there would have been a report on IRL Spotters but nothing has shown up and I'm not too keen on a 150 mile round trip to see something I've seen many times before.

FBOWeb showed the flight plan as LDI166 (Lauda Italy), an A310 flying CYYR-LIBD departing at 0425Z.

Still no news on IRL Spotters but they are all probably at Fairford.

The only way this could be an A310 is if Lauda have chartered one for the trip from a Canadian carrier or Air Comet.

Either that or they have some sort of deal with 'Air Transat' who are doing codeshare between Canada and Europe?!

Jetset, this is VERY importatnt.

Can you please verify the accuracy of your statement by 06.00 GMT Monday as if what you have been told is true I want to visit SNN to photograph the aircraft monday early a.m.

I have plenty of Lauda 767 shots and Air transat/Air Comet shot and DO NOT want to drive 150 miles for nothing.

Thanks in advance,

PhilB

Well everyone...I was in Shannon myself yesterday

Indeed may I confirm it WAS an A310-300!! But not in Lauda colours - Air Plus comet. And the painting looked pretty shabby on the vertical stabiliser...

It left Shannon at around 1900 last evening (Sunday). Shannon gets most of the diversion traffic. In fact a UAL 777 paid SNN a visit a couple of weeks ago.

I remember an LH A340 stopping due to an ill passenger last year, and an AF A340 bomb hoax a couple of years ago too. Shannon has the longest runway in Ireland, and also less congested (lol) than DUB, so I guess it's safer and more convenient to land there. Plus its most westerly airport coming off the Atlantic. The A310 didn't go to Shannon Aerospace, and indeed Aerospace don't specialise A310's. The only Lauda aircraft there is a 737 at the moment.

RJ100,

Sorry, it wasn't directed at you. I was "conversing" with you on the ridiculity of the media. Sorry for the misunderstanding caused.

***So, it was an Air Plus Comet hired by Lauda?...
