There was a big storm that hit DTW this afternoon shortly before 2p.m. High winds, heavy rain lasted for about an hour...it tapered off around 4p.m....there were 3 747-400's that diverted to TOL, they all came in around the same time...4:15...

Just chaos today... absolutely horrible at our end.. I wonder how NW was doing. On the positive side, my grass is turning green.

Yeah it was just 2 744s that got diverted to TOL, both from Tokyo flight 86 and 12. Flight 86 arrived at DTW at around 5pm and Flight 12 finally arrived around 6:45pm

Excuse my ignorance, but having read three threads on this subject, I am none the wiser - where is TOL?

TOL = Toledo, Ohio - 49 miles south/southwest of Detroit. I talked to my mom last night who lives right on the Ohio/Michigan border and they got drilled with an inch and a half of rain in about an hour. At TOL, there was a pretty good downdraft of wind but that was about it. We could see the storm off to the east and got just about enough rain to wet the pavement for a quick minute and then it stopped. It wasn't fun at TOL either because all 5 airlink flights that did divert in were deplaned for about 90 minutes. The thing is, they were all completely full too. The CRJ and 3 Saabs were parked at gate 7 and 1 Saab was parked at gate 5. I guess it was good publicity for the new food court/bar that just opened up in the terminal.

I'm sure the airport has enough money to finally begin the terminal expansion after these two days of diversions. They should just call it World Gateway II and be done with it. :P
