B767 In Asia

as far as i know, there are not many carriers in south east asia that uses the B767. in fact, only 2 carriers use them ( VN and BI). is the 767 unsuitable for asian carriers because they are not small enough for short flights and not big enough for longer flights? and are there any past 767 users in south east asia that changes to another model instead of staying with it?

is there a future for the 767 in southeast asia particularly?

QF and NZ both use the 763 on Asian services. QF are also giving Australian Airlines 763s for their Asian services when they commence. Air Niugini is also about to replace their A310 with an leased NZ 763 so I don't think there will be any shortage of 767s at Asian airports.

Having said that, it is unlikely any other Asia-Pacific airlines will be introducing the 767 (or 757 for that matter) as a new type in their fleets. The A332 is smashing the 764 and nowhere is that more obvious than in Asia where a number of airlines operate or are about to introduce the A332 and none have shown much interest in the 764 despite a much hyped sales tour of a 764 through Asia and Australia a couple of years ago.

If you're thinking of Asia in general - lots of carriers operate them in Asia...

Qantas + Air NZ (if you consider both as Australasian)

no , i mean south east asia... north asia has kinda lots of 767... but not south east asia.

anyway, what is the 767 best for? short, medium or long flights? being that they have got pretty good range as well.

China Southern used to have B767-300ER but they were returned to the leaser few years ago.

One of the primary reasons why the B767 wasn't purchased by some SE Asian carriers (SQ in particular, maybe some others as well) was its ULD configuration. B767s use a ULD that can only be used on 767s and no other aircraft, and that is an operational hindrance to carriers like SQ that operate widebody-to-widebody hubs. The competing A300/310, could exchange some types of ULDs with B747s. Say for example you had a lot of cargo or maybe 40 paxs flying from DPS to SIN to connect to LHR. With an A310 you just needed to load the bads into one ULD and transfer it directly onto the LHR-bound flight at SIN. With a B767, you have to break down the ULD, and reload the bags or cargo into another ULD for the B747.
