I just got to the N2 staff car park about 5 mins before it took off. (car park is right by the 09L threshold) Was standing at the bus stop and was just thinking to myself that I hadn't seen anything take off in the time I was there, and thats when it started !!!.
It was just a slight muffled rumbleing noise at first, thought it was the building works behind me, but it started to get louder, and louder but I still couldn't see anything, then all of a sudden from behind the car rental buildings, out she popped, just starting to rotate, then by the time she got level with me the main wheels had just lifted, about 10-20 ft off the ground, there was a brief dip in the noise levels as those Rolls-Royce/Snecma Olympus 593 turbojets were level with me, then OH MY GOD, the ground was shaking and you could feel the vibrations through your body as she roared into the sky, with 4 reheats glowing and a trail of browny/yellowy smoke behind. Thats when the car alarms voiced their approval by giving us a chorus of their delightful tunes, and just as quickly as it started, it was over for another day.
Why don't all a/c sound like that, aeroplanes are supposed to be noisy, washing machines and fridges are supposed to be quiet.
