I feel even more sorry for those ground staff who have to deal with the passengers! They must be very stressed by now. Is this the first time KLM has gone on a strike?

There's always a better way to fly...

Regarding KL 753 that does that not mean to read GYE Guayaquil?
I am sorry that they do not fly to GUA anymore

SQ, if those ground staff hadn't gone on strike there'd be no angry passengers...
While the strikers are only a minority (about 200 of them) their colleagues are probably not too eager to step in and take on some extra work it seems.

KLM ground handlers did the same thing last summer.

They're demanding their pay (which is already among the highest in Europe) is increased by 40% to make it equivalent to the highest paygrades in the US.
This at a time when KLM is barely making a profit (which is in part possible because of a drop in salaries of other KLM workers in other jobs)...

getting sick of those people who don't know any other way then to strike..
The passengers are the reason they get paid. As for KLM ground engineers it's a shame to do this in the high season. just taking advantage.

Not very good news. I think the strike has wiped out all of Q1's profits  Sad

----

KLM said that it would ask a court to declare the strike illegal after it was forced to cancel about half of intercontinental flights.

KLM has said it lost some €15 000 000 as it had to cancel 22 of 43 intercontinental flights.

16 or 17 intercontinental flights scheduled for Sunday / tomorrow are to be cancelled too.

5 000 to 6 000 travellers were left stranded at AMS. 8 000 to 10 000 transit pax were turned away at other airports.

Next step, claim damages from the strikers. They should pay for the entire loss of revenue, PLUS any cost to get the stranded passengers to their destinations (and possibly financial compensation to those who lost business because of this).

Sadly the courts here probably won't pass such a decision  Angry

A court has ruled in favour of KLM.

blah blah blah...

"The judge has ruled in our favour. If the employees refuse to return than we will be able to claim monetary damages from them," KLM spokesman Hugo Baas said.

"You cannot expect our schedule to return to normal tomorrow. There may be many delays," Baas said.

The court held an emergency session and agreed that the strike was not authorised by unions and was illegal.

Blah blah...

Quick question? Anything more going to happen? Will things return to normal? I am asking casue I am flying KWI-AMS and onwards to the US this Friday. I really don't want to get stuck in the middle of anything here. KWI is not the best place to be stuck in August!
